Diana Krall "Steppin Out" 24/96 ??

I just picked up the Diana Krall CD "Stepping Out" It had a sticker on the wrap and printed in the liner notes that states it has been digitally remastered in Nov 1999 using 24 bit/96kHz technology. Is this really a 24/96 CD? I thought they only came in VCD?

I believe it is Bing, but as we know most processors downconvert to 48 kHz. I think if I fed mine straight through the special inputs the MC-1 has, it would process that way, but you don't have any DSPs at all, as this method bypasses all internal processing. I haven't ever tried this myself.

My Sony DVD player states inorder to pass 24/96, I must used the analog outputs, so far so good. Now if I switch my Denon to Analog or Direct Mode, it will bypass the DAC's and I should be experiencing 24/96, no?

I have no freekin idea bing! I know that is some answer, but I really don't. I can't think of the name of the digital inputs that I have to use, and couldn't last night either. So, I guess a trip to the manual is in order.

I just am not knowledgable enough about the Denon.
It's a great sounding CD, even downconverted though. Fact is, either your player must have 96/24 dacs, and output it in analog fashion to your Denon, or your Denon must have 96/24 dacs, and your player capable of outputing a 96/24 signal. One or the other. Fact is, emphasis seems to have fallen away from 96/24 now, to SACD, HDCD, and such.

Lex, Apperently I have been told that this is how it works. I have read the Sony manuals and it will pass 24/96. I need to dig up the Denon as well, I remember it having something to the effect of 24/96 is in the Analog mode. I'll look that up later today.

In that case, it's got 96/24 dacs along with the satellite com link onboard, haha. Let's just hope your not crying "96 tears" when it doesn't work, lol. For you youngsters 96 tears was a golden oldie song.

Anyway, I would be more likely inclined to think it would be passing a digital signal, but who knows! Maybe your right, hope so.

sorry I'm late Bing your Denon does accept 96.24 signals both through its digital inputs and analog inputs. The Denon has multiple 96.24 DACs on board so you won't loose resolution by using the analog out from your Sony DVD player. If you had a Pioneer or Panasonic player that would pass the 96.24 signal digitally you could have justed justed a digital connection but either way you should be good to go

Yes, apparently the DK CD "used 24/96" mastering techniques. That's all... Still it is a very nice sounding CD. I don't know what it is, but every Krall CD just sounds so real, her vocals seems to be such a good match for my set-up, it unreal.

Oh, for what it's worth. The D/A converter of my Denon sounds much better than the D/A of my DVD player. It is not as evident with this Krall CD, but on other CD's the analog out of the DVD has a shrillness about it that just does not sound as crisp as the optical out to the Denon. And I'm using decent interconects as well (Stinger SBLT 6 bullets).
