Let's get the Christmas Music Rolling!

Thought it would be nice to share some of the cd's/ albums we like to enjoy during the Christmas holidays. Some of my favorite are:

Christmas with BABYFACE ( Epic EK 69617)
A nice upbeat R&B take on the classics. Nicely mastered as well.

MANNHIEM STEAMROLLER - Christmas EXTRAORDINAIRE ( American Gramaphone AG1225-2)
Just good solid classic music presented as only Mannheim Steamroller can.

    JAZZ to the World (Blue Note CDP 7243 8 32127 2 9)
Herb Albert, Jeff Lober, Dianne Reeves, Lou Rawls, Fourplay, Diana Krall, Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Everette Harp, Michael Franks, The Brecker Brothers with Steve Khan, Cassandra Wilson, Herbie Hancock, Eliane Elias, John McLaughlin, Holly Cole, Anita Baker, Chick Corea, Dave Koz and Dr. John.

This compilation of jazz greats is just what the doctor ordered to have a smooth christmas.

Groover Washington Jr. - Breath Of Heaven ( Columbia CK 68527)
The tempo of this disc is on the laid back side. Nice to relax to after putting up all those decorations.

I love Christmas music and can be found occasionaly giving some a listen all throughout the year. I am not sure how many differant titles I have, but will take a look and report back with some of my favorites.

One of my favorites without looking is Trans Siberian Orchestra. There is 3 Christmas CD's, "The Lost Christmas Eve", "Christmas Eve & Other Stories" and "The Ghost of Christmas Eve"

    Good stuff.

Ok, a couple others I thought of.

Lorie Morgan has a very surprising Christmas CD, which is more traditional than a lot of the newer stuff. If you like traditional compasition then this is a fantastic disk.

      1 My Favorite Things
2 A Christmas Festival Medley: Jingle Bells/God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen [medley]
      3 Little Snow Girl
4 Up on Santa Claus Mountain
      5 O Holy Night
6 Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
      7 Blue Snowfall
      8 Toyland
      9 Sleigh Ride
      10 Ave Maria

Another favorite, but non traditional disk is Maria Carey:
      Silent Night
All I Want for Christmas Is You
      O Holy Night
      Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)
      Joy to the World
      Jesus Born on This Day
Santa Claus Is Coming to Town
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing/Gloria (In Excelsis Deo)
Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child

Great thread, maybe this can be a sticky for the hoiliday season? :T

I ALWAYS break out Trans Siberian Orchestra every Christmas, and have been to two of their concerts, too. They're my favorites, although I do use some various others too. I have a dedicated thread here in the forum on TSO if you do a search.

Always enjoy "Messiah", and surprisingly enough, probably my 2nd favorite behind TSO is a CD single of "Little Drummer Boy" by Jars of Clay.

I think the TSO has a new CD out now, making 4 total... saw a commercial this weekend about it and their 2006 tour.

Well, they have another album, "Beethoven's Last Night" not a Christmas disc, but let's go see if there's a new one out too... (checking the TSO website here)

The Official Trans-Siberian Orchestra Fan Club

Nope. Site doesn't say aything about a new one. For the last several years, in their concerts they've auditioned adaptations of "Carmina Burana" (that were awesome) say that they're making a disc out of it. But it hasn't materialized yet.

That may have been the one they were talking about. The commercial said it was "new," might not have been entirely accurate.

For some reason, for the last 5 or so years, its always been "Boney M" christmas music. I actually don't mind it. More for the in-laws you know, but its ok.

This arrived in the post last week from Play.com....

My musician-of-the-moment, Sufjan Stevens has launched a Christmas album.

It's a five disk box set and is fantastic value. Cost me €15! You even get some sticker! Anyhow, it a mix of classic songs, carols and his own work. I've heard some of it on preview at Amazon, and am waiting for the Christmas itself before I play it properly. I'm funny like that. Chrismas starting in August just annoys me!

                    Here's the track list....

Noel: Songs for Christmas, Vol. I (recorded December 2001)
                    1. Silent Night
                    2. O Come O Come Emmanuel
                    3. We’re Goin’ To the Country!
                    4. Lo How A Rose E’er Blooming
                    5. It’s Christmas! Let’s Be Glad!
                    6. Holy Holy, etc.
                    7. Amazing Grace

Hark!: Songs for Christmas, Vol. II (recorded December 2002)
                    1. Angels We Have Heard on High
                    2. Put the Lights on the Tree
                    3. Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
                    4. I Saw Three Ships
                    5. Only at Christmas Time
                    6. Once in Royal David’s City
                    7. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!
                    8. What Child Is This Anyway?
                    9. Bring A Torch, Jeanette, Isabella

Ding! Dong!: Songs for Christmas, Vol. III (recorded December 2003)
                    1. O Come, O Come Emmanuel
                    2. Come on! Let’s Boogey to the Elf Dance!
                    3. We Three Kings
                    4. O Holy Night
                    5. That Was the Worst Christmas Ever!
                    6. Ding! Dong!
                    7. All the King’s Horns
                    8. The Friendly Beasts

Joy: Songs for Christmas, Vol. IV (recorded December 2005)
                    1. The Little Drummer Boy

Here is the information regarding TSO's next project.

                      Night Castle

                      From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Night Castle is a future album of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra that is currently in production. It will include a version of "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, which was previewed live by the band since 2004. A release is planned for summer of 2007. In an interview with Rockmymonkey.com, Jon Oliva
confirmed that he will be recording vocal parts for the album (the last
Trans-Siberian Orchestra album to feature Oliva's vocals was 2000's Beethoven's Last Night). Kurdt Vanderhoof of Metal Church will also contribute guitar parts to the album. Jeff Plate, who has played with Savatage and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, played drums on Metal Church's latest album, A Light In The Dark (album).

During recent performances of their 2006 tour, Chris Caffery
has stated that production of Night Castle is currently behind
schedule, due largely to TSO's perfectionism. This delay echoes the
two-year delay in the release of Beethoven's Last Night and the
year-long delay in the release of The Lost Christmas Eve. The delay of
Night Castle's release is also referenced in tour programs. No official
statements have been made as to the expected length of the delay, and
TSO has requested patience from their fans regarding the album's
                      release.

I saw this little CD lying on the table when I got home from Sydney last night. I suppose that there are worse versions of those songs.

As you can see from the album art Diana is ready to receive the Xmas spirit.

Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock did some Christmas stuff that I love but am having a hard time locating.

If you like the Hammond B3 sound, Rhonda Scott's xmas album is good as well. Like Jimmy Smith on speed.

For a really fun Xmas song, take a listen to "Merry Christmas From the Family" from Robert Earl Keen. I laugh my butt off every time I listen to the song. I think everyone can relate to the lyrics
