Two major events happening this week

There are two major events happening for me this week. One audio related and the other is not. The first one is that my amp has finally arrived and is waiting for me to pick it up:

    Model JJ 322 amp

It is sitting at the cargo facily at the airport waiting for me to pick it up. Plan to pick it up on Wednesday morning. I understand the thing weighs 135 lbs.

The second major event is the birth of my daugther Sarah Anne. I figured I would leave the best news for last. My wife is going to be induced into labor on Wednesday evening. This means Sarah could be born Wednesday or Thursday. Right now it is estimated that the baby weighs around 8 lbs and may be about 9 lbs when she is born.

It looks like this Wenesday is going to be a very busy day for me and my wife.

    Hi Michael

    Congratulations on both counts

Get the critical listening in soon, because the crying SPL increases exponentially with age :B

Congrats on the two new family members. Take care of both, they will bring years of enjoyment. Unless theres something missing in the picture I can't see that amp weighting in at 135. Must be some massive transformers...

                Good luck on both accounts

Well, I guess Sarah Anne is in the audio world now! Right? You guys think Michael is busy now? lol.

Here is the next purchase itenary for Michael:

cable purchases- replaced by diaper purchases.
audio cabinetry- replaced by baby furniture.
Accoustic treatment- replaced by new curtains for the baby's room.
                  software/CDs replaced by Gerber foods.
Smooth and soft soundstage replaced by smooth and soft, um, you know what those diapers are for- lol.

Well, enjoy your walkman now Michael. It may be all the fine audio you can afford for a while, rofl.

Welcome to the world Sarah Anne! Pretty name too. My daughter is Kimberly Ann.

Sarah Anne was born at 4:52 pm MST. She is a 7.0 lb. healty, bouncy baby girl. In fact, she scored a 9 out of 10 on her Apgar tests. Not even a day old and she is doing well on her tests

As far as the amp is concerned, what a beautiful example of craftmanship. The amp was shipped in an incredible looking Mahagony crate that is finished inside and out. This is not a small amp. The first thing that comes to mind when you see the amp is how large it is. The picture is deceptive in this regard. So far, everyone who has seen the amp has remarked that it is a large looking. The amp really weighs as much as it is report, 92 lbs. This is accounted for by thick sheet metal on the top bottom and sides, solid wood pieces on the side and front, and 4 very large transformers. The transformer covers are finished in a high gloss paint that matches the wood base. The JJ emblem, in gold, is stamped on top of each of the transformer covers. And if you think that is something, even the feet are finished in the same 24 kt gold finish that is on the top plate. There is even a cool looking "JJ 322" desinator plate, finished in gold, on the top plate at the front of the amp. On of the coolest things that I have seen, on am amp, is the inclusion of volume indicator tubes, EM84. These tubes are kind of gard to explain. They contain a strip that lights up blue with two halves, one at the top and one at the bottom. Kind of what a split bar graph looks like. Anyhow, the two halves of blue move toward each other to show how loud the audio output is. Really fun to watch the blue indicators move dynamically to the music. All in all, this amp is over built in all areas. Even the shipping crate weighed in at 40 lbs. My initial listening impression, of the amp, is that it is very sweet sounding. More to come later.
