Difference between Usher BE-718 and Usher 718 A bookshelf speakers

I'm looking to buy some used bookshelfs. The non be speakers are ~$800 whereas the be tweeter versions are ~$1400

are these worth the extra cost?

Hmmm... I'm not sure if anyone here specifically knows about Ushers, but let's see!

Yeah they are Chinese but I have heard them when they first came out and was extremely impressed.

From the pics it looks like the Usher 718 A's use the 8945P driver whereas the be-718's use the 8945A- I could be wrong

I really like these speakers. The tweeters are incredible. The bass is a little lean but these can handle a lot of power. I wonder how linear the port is due to the small aperture but overall I can't imagine that a pair of bookshelves can sound too much better without spending a lot more- these really live up to the measurements Zaph audio has on the drivers

Just as an update the bass isn't that bad on these. It's become apparent that I have some bad room modes, sitting off axis the bass seems 6dB louder...

Im interested in building an MTM using the usher 8945p on sale at parts express. I have searched for designs and there seems to be very little designs using this speaker.

I have built Roman's microbes and a sub so far. Are there any documented designs available? I'm not ready to try designing...

                  by akcrusier
I have been lurking on this site for a few months while I have been building an amplifier. Now that my amplifier is almost done I think that it is about time to start thinking about building a pair of speakers. I have a fairly large room (about 8000 cubic feet) and like to listen to music (classical...
