    Sony tape deck issue/problem...

I have a Sony TCK-850ES tape deck. Overall, the unit is in great shape except for the fact that it is eating tapes. Specifically, it is acutally turning/twisting the tape while it plays. I've tried, gently, cleaning the pinch rollers and playback/recording head with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and swabs to no effect.

Anyone have any advise? Is it doomed to the landfill?

Sounds to me like the pinchroller is worn out or misaligned... like madmac said, probably not worth fixing, just toss it and buy a new one.

@kpodolski ....I've got a nice one It's a Sony 3 head model with Dolby S. I think it was the best model before going to their ES series models at the time. I'll sell it to you for 50 bucks plus shipping !! Works perfectly!. I hope your in Canada though!!.

Thanks but I'll pass. Not really looking for another tape deck. I was just wondering if there was an easy/quick fix for mine. I haven't really touched mine in years....

I'm sure if I dig deep enough into past entries I can find some discussion on this issue. But I'd like to hear some fresh responses. Here's the deal, after years of ok audio equipment, (Sony Reciver, Sony DVD player, Sony CD player, Sony Tape Deck, Sony TV, Sony Front Channel and Subwoofer (anyone...

Tape loop / record-out source select
            by Bob_Collins
Ok guys, I have a question to pose. Are there any Home Theater receivers or processors out that include the venerable, old “tape loop” function? I’m referring to the ability on older stereo equipment to select a source for recording out to the tape outputs, but still allow you to choose to listen...

If you were to take the plunge or if you were to up grade, what units in your setup you would like to keep (speakers, VCR, Laserdisk) and what items would you say "It's time to go" and why?

I do remember why I took the plunge 9 years ago my setup was

I have a 5 shelf equipment rack (including top surface which I do not use for equipment - so in fact 4 useable shelves).

I virtually never touch the Denon 3300 receiver I have. However, the rest of my components - tape deck, cable receiver, dvd player, 5-cd changer, 2 - VCR's - are obviously...

            Hi All,

My HT gear sits behind solid wood doors and it's a pain to get up, open the doors each time I want to turn something on so I'm thinking of getting an IR repeater. It's a basic setup: Receiver (RSX-1056), DVD player (RDV-1040), Tape Deck(nakamichi), VCR(toshiba), and TV, My VCR...
