    External sound from PC

i have a laptop that i want to connect to my stereo. when i used a Y adapter (3.5mm to RCA) i get a hiss in the background from the crappy sound card in my laptop. what would be a good cheap external sound card. all i need is RCA (red and white) outputs. i have a Toshiba qosmio g30. I think i would need either a USB or fire wire sound card. suggestions?

This isn't really a "club rotel" question, you might like to try posting somewhere else.
Either way, a few minuets with google is bound to throw some suggestions. I like the small M-Audio Transit USB adapter.

The Rotel RC-1082 has the 'media player' connection. Try that one.

Agree not really a "Rotel" question ...

I don't think the "Media Player" connection is anything different from normal RCA inputs than front panel and 3.5mm jack convinience.

If you're happy spending the money - try looking at the Devil Sound DAC Cables http://www.devilsound.com/. Very good sound (for the money - $400) and very convenient.

              Hi

According to the CNET review, your mobile has SPDIF output. I would use that and connect it to what ever you have that can accept such a digital signal. At least try it before you spring for a new sound card on what is effectively an "old" notebook.

my laptop does have that but only via HDMI. I can use the HDMI while at home, that is no problem. but I do a little amature djing at local parties and need something else. the m audio unit seems to look good.

                  Question regarding sound card - B&W 685
                  by shtali
                  Hi,
I have an HTPC with an onboard sound card.
                  I have Rotel PRE 1070 + POWER 1070 + B&W 685
The quality of sound coming out of the HTPC is much worst then a stand alone CD player.

I am considering buying a sound card + external DAC (as several distinguished members...

OK I would like to hear from people who have successfully used a USB to serial adapter/converter cable to update the firmware on their 10 or 15 series processor or AVR. I want to be able to use my laptop to do this update which is Vista 64bit. I am trying to update my RSP-1069

External DACs and laptops – the good and the bad
                  by bigburner
Three years ago I plugged my laptop into my hi-fi using a cheap and cheerful external DAC from Creative. The results were disappointing. The sound was brittle, sometimes it took a lot of messing around to get the thing to work, and I was plagued by a hum that was eliminated only by putting a cheater...

Using MxEditor and a USB connection
                  by Jon SS
I just got a new laptop and need to make come changes to my remote. I bought a USB/serial connector/adapter since my laptop only has USB ports but for some reason it cannot connect to my remote?

Am I supposed to make any additional setting changes?

                  Thanks in advance.

                  External CDRW's
                  by P-Dub
Anybody have any experience with external USB cdrw's? I'm looking at the HP 8230e, it's a 4x4x6 external CDRW's that connects via the USB.

I'd like to have it so we can backup the laptop, my PC, and I can take it to work and transfer files that way. I'm thinking of grabbing large files...
