Using MxEditor and a USB connection

I just got a new laptop and need to make come changes to my remote. I bought a USB/serial connector/adapter since my laptop only has USB ports but for some reason it cannot connect to my remote?

Am I supposed to make any additional setting changes?

    Thanks in advance.

Jon, USB-to-serial adaptors can be "fluky". The Halo setup program and Titan updator particularly require a high-grade serial connection that can pass high bandwith info. However, I haven't had much problem with adaptors and the MXEditor program, which doesn't require as much bandwith.

I use a USB-serial adaptor with my laptop and MXEditor too, from Radio Shack. No probs. You have to make sure that the serial port configured in your Device Hardware settings (right click on "My Computer" and go to the hardware tab) is the same port that you configure in the MXEditor program.

Be careful, if you use different USB ports on your computer, it will assign different serial ports. I use the same USB port every time.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

Using a USB to Serial adapter for FW update w/ Vista
      by TommyV
OK I would like to hear from people who have successfully used a USB to serial adapter/converter cable to update the firmware on their 10 or 15 series processor or AVR. I want to be able to use my laptop to do this update which is Vista 64bit. I am trying to update my RSP-1069

This is kinda cool. The USB feature is really interesting--automatically converts to a digital audio file?

      Rotel Firmware update -- info
      by chamath
I would like to share my 2nd upgrade experience with you so hopefully you would not run into the same issues I had. I have a Rotel RSX-1057; however, the issue described below would apply to any upgrade as it was not a Rotel problem.

      Firmware: (1057)
      my system = 2.1.2

Problems with MXEditor Live Update after DPLIIx software update
      by Chris D
Weird. I downloaded the DPLIIx update to two different computers I own, including the new MXEditor software version. Got through the update okay, following the instructions for both Halo Control and MXEditor. So far so good. I ran the MXEditor program Live Update, which downloaded a rather large...

      USB to Serial Adapter
      by Andrew Pratt
Has anyone ever tried to connect to the Rotels to update the firmware using a USB to serial adapter? I'm looking to buy a laptop and not all of them come with a serial port anymore which might not be a problem if the converters work properly.
