Shame. One of the finest in music ever. And an inventor to boot.
Still 94 is pretty good all things considered.

I wonder what Rock would have been like had Les Paul not invented the electric guitar ?

Well he lived a long and good life and provided a lot of entertainment to the world.

      RIP Mr. Paul

There is a great documentary about Les Paul available on Netflix. I streamed it not too long ago, and was amazed not only at how many innovations he was involved with, but also how well he still could play. A true pioneer, for sure.

Now that's an interesting thing to ponder. A mosh pit with acoustic guitar? Angus Young with a banjo? Naaaahhh.

Seriously though, thank you Les Paul for your invention and what it's done for all of us. Vaya con Dios.

I can picture Angus with an acoustic , flailing away , but I can't picture AC/DC selling a bazillion albums that way. Where would Jimmy Page be without Les Paul? Or B.B. King , Clapton , the Beatles , Uncle Ted , etc...? Les created a new canvas for a whole genre of artists. A long and productive life , only he knows if it was happy. I sincerely hope he derived great joy and satisfaction from his contributions.
Damn fine guitarist , to boot.

While the electric guitar is what Les Paul is known for, and rightfully so, his invention and innovation with multi-track recording is far more significant in the history of music.

Yes, and it's something I rarely see discussed.

I think it's a matter of what people can see.The average Joe on the street can see a guitar, but the recording side of it is in a dark light studio.Out of sight ,out of mind kind of deal.

I have a good DVD about him - "Chasing Sound - The Les Paul Story" which was released in 2008. It's well worth a look.

Looks like the same thing I watched via Netflix, although the cover art is different. Here's a quote from their site:

The remarkable true-life story of electric guitar legend and rock 'n' roll icon Les Paul unfolds in this feature-length documentary that originally aired as part of PBS's "American Masters" series. Chronicling Paul's rise from poverty to eventual rock royalty, the program features interviews from many of his big-name admirers, including B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Tony Bennett, Jeff Beck, Merle Haggard and Steve Miller.
