    Speaker Upgrading??

    Hello All,

I have Paradigm Ref Studio 100's V2 and very happy with them. A friend upgraded to the V5. From the V2. I don't want to hear them because they may sound better. We both use a Rotel RSP-1068 processor & 1075 amp.

If I was going to upgrade on speakers, I would choose another brand. What are your thoughts on speaker upgrading???

I haven't heard this exact Sound Lab model ... I've heard his old A1, Dynastat, and Ultimate speakers. Really natural, resolving and open sounding.

The Dynastat is really nice too, although I've olny heard his early model years ago.

I know these are pricey, but just thought I'd mention them.

I like Thiel speakers very much too. I own some old CS1s. Again, I haven't heard his recent work. But I think he designs for accurate/neutral reproduction. (i.e. low distortion, time coherent, ...).

Maybe the 3 way, Thiel 2.4?

IMO, lateral moves are usually disappointing. (Unless there is something specific you don't like about your system which is addressed by a simialar priced competative piece) If I am going to make a move, I usually take a big step. Lots of incremental moves usually cost more in the long run.

      Cheers,

I STRONGLY agree with that. The general approach I've adopted for myself, regarding upgrades, is that I will not upgrade equipment until I can make a QUANTUM jump in performance. Otherwise, you're spending a bunch of money to buy something you pretty much already have, with a small improvement. Thus, you're spending a bunch of money for a little gain. If you can spend a bunch of money plus just a little bit more, you can often get a much bigger gain, getting more bang for your buck.

          Thiel & Krell

I spent about four hours at my local hifi shop yesterday listening to various combinations of gear from Paradigm (Signature Line), Thiel, Rotel, and Krell.

After listening to my Signature S4's at home for many hours I have picked up on a couple things I would like to improve upon with...

          Thiel CS 2.4
          by GregLett
Briefly heard the Thiel 2.4's yesterday, very good. The were hooked up to:
          Classe CDP-100 CD player
          Classe CDP-500 PreAmp
          Bryston 7B SST monoblocks.

Has anyone listened to, or have these with other gear?
          What do you think?

          Thanks.

          Thiel center
          by Herbonbay
I'm considering the purchase of a pair of Thiel cs 1.6s. The one point that has me thinking twice is the coat of the SCS3 center. The 1.6s are $2100 to $2400 a pair, but Thiel wants $1400 for the SCS3 ( a 2 way coax design ) center. It's as if Thiel is fighting the whole idea of a center and wants...

While its been quiet here I've been off upgrading!
          by Phil Rose
I thought that I'd share what I've been up to since we last had a discussion about power amps.

If you recall, I finally took the plunge and installed a pair of Bryston 7B to drive my N802s. What great amps and what an improvement in the handling of the speakers!

          Well, after...

          Upgrading to Delta 600 amplifiers?
          by Oddiophile
          Need your thoughts/opinions on this.

Currently I have 3 CA-M400 amps driving a pair of B&W 800D speakers and one B&W HTM1D speaker. I am wondering if it would be worth my while to upgrade to the new Delta 600 amps.

The trouble is that I have not heard the new 600...
