    OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray player region free in New Zealand

    RapalloAV - a New Zealand retailer - is currently taking orders for a hardware modified (not software) OPPO BDP-83 region free player.

    It will play all regions on standard DVD and Blu-ray discs.

    Apologies if this is old news but the last time I was reading about the BDP-83 its region locking was being widely criticised.

      Interesting news. I always need region free players. But how is that different from a software hack which is normally for free? I mean he sells it for twice the price as well...

          Not a new one. A BDP 83. I'm helping a buddy put together a home cinema kit and he donated his BDP 83 to me as my "consultant fee". :T

          It will replace my current DVD-A/SACD player and my blu-ray player and free up some space on my gear shelf. Looking forward to how it looks...

          The March issue of Stereophile showed up yesterday, and inside was the review of the Oppo BDP83SE, in the Music in the Round column. Kal, The Man, did a blind test comparing the analog audio outputs of the Oppo BDP83SE and Oppo BDP83. Way to go Kal! :T

          hmmm... my previous thread has led me to another question.......I know you cant play Region 1 DVD's in Region 4 or others but I also know that you have regionfree DVD players....or you can tweak your DVD's to be region free.......but the real question coming to my mind is :
