Best super-budget DVD palyer for audio

I am looking for a very inexpensive DVD player for audio use. Are any of the current model Toshibas as good as the discontinued SD-3950? I am open to other suggestions as well.

    Thanks,

    Jason

Both oppo's aren't bad. My 971 sounds about the same as my SB Extigy DAC, that isn't bad.

        Hi,

I suppose it all depends on what you mean by 'budget'....!

I'd consider an entry level Marantz (DV4600). You'll pick one up for well under $200 now.

That said, we're back to the old discussion of how you'll hook it up to your receiver.

If you use digital, then the player is pretty much a transport so it all depends on the dac in your reciever - pretty much. If you use the analogue then the dac in the player matters and for that reason, I'm suggesting Marantz as a possibility.

        Vincent.

I don't want the world. I just want your half.

This is what NuForce says about the Oppo 970:

In comparing to one of the better SACD/CD player, the $3496 Marantz SA11S1, Oppo DV970HD came hair- closed to Marantz in SACD and CD playback. Marantz was a tad more relax and expansive, but the Oppo hold its own and with plenty of PRaT (Pace, Rhythm and Timbre) that even Marantz couldn't quite match. In fact, using a better audio interconnect could immediately tipped the scale towards the Oppo - it's that closed! With a high-bit-rate DVD-Audio or DVD recording (96/24-bit or 192/24-bit), Oppo was in a class all by itself.

Note: Use the front left/right output and NOT the mixed output for best audio quality sound.

          I don't know if it's true; it's just interesting.

            Rotel RQ-970

Anyone own or have any opinions on the Rotel RQ-970? I'm thinking about getting into Vinyl and will need a Phono Pre-Amp to hook up to my RSX-1057 and right now it is between the RQ-970 and the Pro-Ject Phono Box.

Newbie on this board. I was impressed with the knowledge I've seen displayed and decided to join.

I have an old (used for 2-channel) system that I'm now trying to upgrade to home theater.

I bought a Rotel preamp several years ago (RTC-970) and used it as the control center...

            Hi there...

I'm relatively new to this forum, but not to Rotel!!

The RSX-1055 is quite a machine!...I'm quite satisfied now...and you can seriously see the faulty DD tracks (like The Musketeer's vocals) and the ones that are perfect (LOTR and so man others)...

Hello all, I just registered here.

I am a long time Rotel owner. I bought a 965BX cd player way back in 1993 (if my memory serves me correct) and am still using it today :T

I recently bought a Rotel RTC-970 Surround Sound Receiver/Preamp from eBay but it did not come...

            Added A RQ-970
            by rpryan
A friend sold me his turntable (Project-rpm4) after upgrading to a much better setup. My amp doesn't have a phono section, so I bought a new Rotel RQ-970. Pushed the button to MC, plugged the ins and outs, and set it up to AUX. Was I surprized how well it sounded, for a $200 phono pre amp, this unit...
