    Analogue: entry level TT

Please, suggestions on an entry level TT with cartridge, ready to go. Budget is around $700. I have looked at Music Hall, Rega, Sota, Clearaudio. Each have their pros/cons. Need some real world input from users. Thanks.

I've had an older Rega Planar 3 for several years.

Got the then-recommended Sumiko Blue Point Special to go with... nice match.

Excellent performance for the price... reliable... no issues... no urge to replace it.

But I've done no side-to-side comparisons with any of the others.

Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring
production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid.

I got back into vinyl about 3 years ago when I bought the Music Hall MMF-5. It has a plain jane look to it and the tonearm is a little chintzy, but for the price, (about $600) it does have some nice features, including adjustable VTA, a record clamp and a good cartridge in the Goldring. Above everything else, within its price point, it sounds very good. I only intended to buy the 'table to play the 200 or so LPs I already had, but instead have nearly doubled my record collection.

Overall, I've been pleased with the Music Hall, but I'm getting the upgrade bug and am thinking about the VPI Scoutmaster.

I found this on Audiogon. You didn't mention if you already had a phono stage. If not this might be worth making a phone call. The seller is in Houston, TX

Thanks, I did see that on A'gon. My current pre (Rotel RC-1090) has a phono stage. I was looking for a bit more 'audiophile' than the MMF-2.1.

Miner, I agree with previous posters that in the price range you mention Music Hall or Rega would be a fine place to start. At that price point you should match up fairly well with your phono stage in your Rotel, keeping your cartridge selection to a M/M or high output M/C. FWIW 've had my Music Hall mmf-9 for almost a year now and continue to be pleased with it's performance.

                Good Luck !

Miner, how are ya? Well, I still haven't bit the bullet yet. I was thinking MMF-5 but I've done some research and the Rega P3 seems like it might be a better choice. I have not had an chance to demo either unit yet. Every question seems to bring on 100 more questions so I'm taking my time. I did a quick search on Rega and you should contact steve@soundorg.com for a list of dealers up here. If I can fing more info, I'll post up or PM you. PLEASE let me know your findings/thoughts on the Regas and Music Halls if you do get to demo them. I'm leaning toward the Rega now and what cartridge would compliment it well in my price range. Best of luck to you!

                    Turntable recommendations
                    by Kevin_McC
Last year I got back into vinyl, but before buying a nice TT I figured I'd get a cheaper used one to try first to see if I would really still enjoy LP's.

Well as it turns out I listen almost exclusively to LP's, so I want to get a better turntable. I have three older TT's that I've been...

Turntables - Old Rotel or New Other
                    by Redhawk
                    Anyone have a Rotel turntable?

Would you go with an older Rotel like the RP-5300 with a new cartridge or one of the entry level Rega or Project’s?

It will be with a Bellari VP130, the 1069, and CM7’s.

                    Thanks.

Looking for new cartridge + stylus - Help appreciated
                    by kiko
                    Hi everyone

I am shopping for a new cartridge + stylus for my turntable, or so I think. I currently own an entry-level Stanton T50x turntable bought 5 years ago when I wasn't too sure going back to vinyl would be as exciting and feasible as it is now. I run that Stanton through a Yamaha...

                    by Industrial
Just went out and demoed the Rega P5 Turntable. Loved the sound so much I had them order one for me. Should be brought here and setup by next weekend. Got the cherry wood deck. Also got a "Exact" cartridge (the yellow rega one) to go along with it. I tried the one up from that (the blue one)...

                    secondary system - analogue
                    by miner
Well, I finally have set up my analogue secondary system. I am using my first amp/pre - a Rotel RC-1070 and RB-1070. My source is a Rega P7 with Dynavector 20XH. The speakers are Dynaudio Audience 52SE and Sub 20A. Have yet to critically listen to it. The cabinet I will be using is an Ethan Allen...
