    Chris Cornell - Scream

    Chris Cornell - Scream

This is a pure Timbaland album, listener beware this is not a "normal" Chris Cornell or rock album. If you enjoy Timbaland or dance/R&B hip-hop style music you will enjoy. I simply can't stop listening to this album, I like it that much.

I apologize for doubling-up a post (from My World Tour), but I wanted to share this one with you. It's good stuff.

Melody Gardot - My One And Only Thrill
      :4:

This is an artist I wasn't familiar with until playing this cd tonight. I'm impressed. Ms. Gardot is a jazz singer with a great sultry voice and good songs to use it with. Her musicians are very good and the recording quality is quite high. All the songs are her own originals with the exception of a cover of Over The Rainbow. After an initial listen, I think I prefer her over Dianna Krall and Norah Jones!

She has an amazing life story that left me wondering if I could accomplish anything close what she has after facing the obstacles thrown at her. Here's a link to Allmusic's biography on her.

          The Greencards - Fascination (2009)

Nice album. A bit of folk rock makes a very pleasant change.

Oh, and yes, I agree with your statement wholeheartedly, David.

I first heard her about a year ago on an NPR interview, and like you was even more impressed by her music after hearing of her story. Her music, voice, and the production on her CD’s is first-rate. IMHO, I put it at same level I hold Madeleine Peyroux. I am looking forward to a lot more great music from Melody.

Very well! Doing a blind purchase--was thinking about doing an Amazon purchase anyway--just ordered this with it. You guys haven't steered me very wrong so far.

In accordance with a discussion about CD vs. SACD vs. Vinyl by Kate-br, I ran out today and purchased an SACD.

So as to risk absolute unoriginality I am currently listening to Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon. :assimilate:

                    WOW.

This is by far the best audio I have ever heard.

Chris Botti - In Boston Blu-Ray

                    Dolby True HD (7.1/5.1 96 kHz/24bit)

                    Simply outstanding.

I know its a BD and not CD, but I had to post this for anyone who has not yet heard of it.

Fine... another blind purchase for me.

I've never heard Chris Botti, but I'm a trumpet player myself, so this one should be an easy kill.

I never heard Chris Botti before either, but you will certainly know all of his guests i.e. Sting, Steven Taylor, John Mayer etc.

I watched it twice in a row all the way through (160 minutes each time). It was that good.

I just got done listening to the new Oasis Dig Out Your Soul album. I liked it, they stuck to what they do best. Now I'm listening to Ratatat. I know my music taste is all over the place. Earlier I was listening to Daft Punk. That's some of the best dance techno i've ever heard.

Speaking of Classics and Classical I received this CD in the mail today. The Swingle Singers - "Keyboard Classics." For those not familiar with them, they are a Jazz Acappella group that started out in the 60's under the direction of Ward Swingle. Although, they sing mostly classical music. It's mostly vocal with no words, just "La-La, Ba-Ba, Ooh, Ah," etc. and few if any support instrumentation. I LOVE IT. Good sonics too.

;x( Keyboard Classics has modern singers, singing some older works arranged by Ward Single, and some new stuff as well.

Jazz Sabastian Bach is from the 60s with the original Swingle Singers. It has more of a Jazzy sound. Even though I prefer Keyboard Classics, this original group has it's own charm.

Got to include this Mozart one too, A Cappella Amadeus - A Mozart Celebration. I have yet to listen to it but it's one of my dad's favorite CDs.

Edit: After listening more to Keyboard Classics and some other Swingle Singer albums, I like Keyboard the best. My dad agrees too.

Ryan Bingham - "Roadhouse Sun" (2009)

This is 28 year old Ryan Bingham's second album after his highly aclaimed "Mescalito" debut album that I love. This album is a bit rockier than the first one but will cement his position as an up and coming musician to keep an eye on. I hear that Maverick Magazine has given it a 5 star rating.

                                      My latest CD escapade: Camel

Fine prog rock. I purchased self-titled debut album, Breathless, Mirage, Snow Goose, and Rain Dances. Very effortless sounding music.

These guys define the word "band" IMO. They seem to work together so naturally. Glad I discovered them on u-toob.

The recordings are A+, too! So far recommend self-titled and Mirage albums the most.

                                                  O Cracker, Where Art Thou?

Cracker and Leftover Salmon collaborate to 'hillbilly up' some of Cracker's best songs. The result is foot stompingly addictive and great fun. Even if you don;t know Cracker, this album will introduce you to, imo, one of America's finest alternative country/rock bands going.

I'm a huge fan of David Lowry from way back in his Camper Van Beethoven days right the way through to his work with Cracker today. The released a new album last month and I'm really enjoying that one too.

What a lovely album. Every song is different. They range from blues to roots to Americana to gospel.

I see that his previous CD "House Of Refuge" (2006) was a multi award-winning effort. Where has this guy been all my life?

How to describe it? Indo-fusion? Jazz-synth-sitar-rock? I don't know. What I do know is that funky and wild and totally addictive.

I've a few albums on vinyl and this one also on CD. A very rare find now, but worth sounding out.

La Luz del Ritmo by Los Fabuloso Cadillacs

I am resistant to call this ‘Latin Fusion’ because it is so much more.

Their first new album in over ten years, this band was part of a pioneering wave of musicians and bands that came out of Mexico City and Argentina in the early '80s and were some the first to induce a ska and punk undertone with an indigenous nationalistic flavor.

This disc contains some of their older originals, which stand as greats all on their own. But the new songs here go to a place never heard before. Incredibly, the infusion of what would be considered incompatible genre’s of hip-hop, techno, new age, Rock, South American ‘chicha’ along with the grounded rhythm of traditional Latin are homogenized into a truly enjoyable and unique music that is guaranteed to have you listening to this one with the ‘repeat’ option in the ‘on’ position.

Sound quality is average, with the usual overdose of compression, but clarity is good and distortion tolerable.

                                                            I highly recommend this one.

Although just about everyone, including me, uses "Brothers in Arms" (BIA) as a demo disk, this evening, I'm revisiting Dire Straits' eponymous debut album "Dire Straits".

I wore out my vinyl copy years ago, so I was delighted to find a CD of the album at a local store for slightly less (even after paying local sales tax) than the Amazon price. The sound on this "digitally remastered" disk is superb, right up there with BIA, in my opinion. (However, the arrangements are not as bombastic.)

And of course, it has the most amazing and satisfying of all their songs, "Sultans of Swing". It still amuses me that they describe a sound in the lyrics of this song which is not duplicated in the instrumentals. But the sound they do employ is more than OK for me. Hard to believe this abum has been around over 30 years -- sounds as fresh and engaging now as it did when I first heard it. Maybe that is because it hasn't been overplayed the past several years the way BIA has been, so hearing it again is a special treat.

What you DON'T say may be held against you...
