    Hi Guys,

Can somebody recommend a an R'n'B CD album that is worth buying, something along the lines of R Kelly, Usher or Alicia Keys with fantastic sound production qualities that would get the best out of my sound system and my ears?

    Cheers

    Jazz

My latest ‘used’ acquisition from Amazon....

Rickie Lee Jones - Rickie Lee Jones (self titled)

Many years ago I had this album on cassette tape, and played it often........
My the years pass rapidly.......it sounds all brand new!!!!!
Maybe some day Norah will grow up to be this good.

      Nearly reference quality sound-wise, too.

I'm looking at my silent stereo listening to Status Quo covers coming in through my window

Took me about 3 weeks wait to get some cables to audition this weekend. The neighbours are having a birthday party in the back yard with a covers act playing for the past 6 hours. No way can I compete with a PA.

            Talk about bad timing.

I will say that they arn't bad considering that they are playing commercial radio standards :Z - but out of 52 Sundays they pick today.

The Gene Harris Quartet - Listen Here!

Just got this today from Amazon (used).
                  Oh man....is this a treat!

Gene hits a fusion of blues and bebop on the ivories that really puts a grin on my face. Great energy, and proof that when it comes to putting the right group of musicians together, the sum can become much greater than the whole. As an aficionado of the string bass, Ray Brown makes some of the sweetest complementary melody you could ever ask for.

Big bonus.....its SACD, and sounds fantastic even on my standard redbook CDp!

                          Why?

Some choral music or relatively obscure orchestral music if you are into classical maybe but nothing that sounds remotely commercial thanks

I picked up 3 of Trans Siberian Orchestra's Christmas CD's today. Unfortunately I don't think Diana's going to like them so unfortunately I'll have to listen to some of that mainstream stuff....

I grabbed the one Chris showed there and these.

Awesome, Dougie! That's the three Christmas albums they have, and they also have one of Beethoven's works. They're working on one based on Carmina Burana, but have been promising it for 3+ years, and it's still not out yet.

I really, really think you'll enjoy the music. It's musical genius work.

I'm listening to Boyz 11 Men Greatest Hits at the moment. I really love there vocal production and some of the songs have been produced to a very high standard.

True, Pewter. I was highly disappointed with the DVD, though. (which I purchased separately) There's an outstanding version of "O Holy Night" by Michael Crawford, but otherwise, the DVD was not worthwhile.

This is so ironic....I just picked up an ‘in store only sampler disc’ of Trans Siberian Orchestra this past weekend at the flea market.

But I have to admit my opinion of their work is slightly less enthusiastic.
I get more of a ‘Metallica mutilates X-mas’ kind of impression from this work. :takecover: :W

Yes, if anyone has an aversion to hard rock, then TSO might not be the best. But if you listen to their work, there is a lot of musical genius in it. Multiple songs that are woven together, choir vocals woven in with electric guitar, drums, acoustical guitar and other traditional Christmas instruments, etc.

Lyrically, probably her best album yet. The whole album was put so well together. It's as if she was telling one story.

STAN MEETS CHET - Stan Gets / Chet Baker

Just arrived via Amazon, this one is really 'swing-in'. With a Chicago rhythm section and superb studio engineering, this CD is nonstop, toe-tappin, big grin bebop.

V up tempo for Baker,............ and Stan, well.....Stan was such a virtuoso, he can fit in anywhere.

                                                      Good stuff, this one!

I'm sorry Bill but Rickie Lee Jones doesn't sound anything like Norah Jones Completely different sound. Not bad but different.

The Notting Hillbillies: Missing... Presumed Having A Good Time

Mark Knopfler, Steve Phillips, Guy Fletcher, Brendan Croker. (I'd only known of Knopfler, not the others, before this album.) Produced by Knopfler and Fletcher. SUPERB production, GREAT folky bluesy down-homey country-rocky geetar playing and singing. Grown to be one of my favorites. Outstanding sound quality. Became my reference CD as I built my new music delivery system.

Knopfler in a little different incarnation...

Those of you who watch music DVDs will know Levon from The Band's farewell performance, "The Last Waltz", in 1976.

Levon has undergone extensive treatment for throat cancer over the last ten years. This has changed his voice quite a lot.

I'm looking for a quality recording of the Bat out of Hell. I have the cd now but am looking for a concert or high quality cd instead(SACD?). Actually a great concert would be best. I've found a few on Amazon but I would to hear what others have and what is good.

The problem is i don't know which brand of CDR is the the best. THere are many on the market these days. Do you have any suggestion and where i can get it?
