Derek & The Dominos - "Live at the Fillmore"
Some people think that this 1970 concert is Eric Clapton's finest moment and that he hasn't played as well since.
I only got this album (a double CD) yesterday so I'll need to listen to it a few times before making a brave statement like that! It sounds pretty good so far though.- Bottom

Evanescence - The Open Door
It's a credible second effort even if it's not up to the standard set by their first album. Amy Lee's voice is just amazing IMO.

Felix Pappalardi – “Don’t Worry Ma”
This 1979 album was a gift from a colleague at work.
Felix Pappalardi has a very interesting background. He produced albums for a number of musicians including the British supergroup Cream. He and his wife Gail wrote the Cream song "Strange Brew" with Eric Clapton. He was the bassist and vocalist for the American heavy rock group Mountain. "Mississippi Queen" – which is Mountain’s best known song – is still played on radio stations today. As a result of playing with Mountain he became largely deaf, which makes it amazing that he was able to sing so well on this album. At age 43 he was shot dead by his wife, supposedly because she was tired of him messing around with other women.
Pappalardi recorded only 2 solo albums and this CD contains both of them. The first was recorded with the Japanese band Creation. I prefer the second album “Don’t Worry Ma” because it’s more melodic. In fact it’s a really nice album.- Bottom

Interesting trivia, bigburner. I've always been a fan of the "Mississippi Queen" song. I'll have to have a listen to this cd.

"Full Circle" by Walter Trout
Some of you will remember Walter as the guitarist in Canned Heat.
These days he pumps out raunchy, high energy, electric guitar blues. This album is no exception except he has invited a bunch of his friends to help him out.
Walter's guests include John Mayall, Jeff Healey, Eric Sardinas, Coco Montoya, Junior Watson, Guitar Shorty, James Harman, Bernard Allison, Finis Tasby, Deacon Jones and Joe Bonamassa.
The result is a pretty impressive album.- Bottom

I just had two high-res audio discs delivered--Tubular Bells on SACD, and Donald Fagen's Morph the Cat on DVD-A.
You all know Tubular Bells, you may just not realize you do. The most famous music section out of it was used for theme music for the horror series "Halloween". It wasn't bad, but rather abstract and the surround mix was kind of annoying.
Haven't made it all the way through Morph the Cat yet, but I'm really enjoying it so far. I can see why people are saying that it is THE highest quality surround disc EVER made. Smooth, laid-back music, with relaxed surround mix. Never been a Steely Dan fan, and this music is still rather retro like it's on a 70's easy listening radio station and I'm expecting the Carpenters on next. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.CHRIS

Dire Straits, "Brothers In Arms." I just received this one today. It's actually the first time I've heard/bought this or any other Dire Straits music. But I've read so much about this album and Mark Knoplfer, just had to get it and try it out (in stereo, not sacd).
Frank
edit: Yesterday, I listened to The Mavericks, "The Definitive Collection". Just had to get that one for the song, "Blue Moon" sung by Raul Malo. I love the way he sings that. Mike Knapp over at HTT turned me (not personally) on to that one. Been wanting it ever since.- Bottom

- Nightfly
- Kamakiriad
- Morph
The Nightfly is a masterwork and is in the company of Pet Sounds & Abbey Road.Bluespower- Bottom

Shirley Horn "May The Music Never End"... unfortunately it does after 11 magical tracks, but that's what the "repeat" button is for. Accompanied by piano, bass and drums, she and the ensemble cover familiar material such as "Yesterday" in a way that almost makes you forget any other foursome ever touched it. :>) Dusty Springfiled "owned" the plaintive Jacques Brel/Rod McCuen song "If You Go Away", but Shirley takes it to a whole new level, and her rendition of "Ill Wind" blows me away...

Brightblack Morning Light.
ST
This is one of those albums that on the first listen is simply background music, but the more time you give it the more complicated it becomes. There are many layers here and the record begs to be given a critical listen.
There are whispered harmonies over a bluesy backbeat, the occasional horn or flute, and tracks that intertwine with each other. I liked this record at first, but I love it now.Hello, my name is Eric and I am a music addict.- Bottom
