Benchmark DAC1 versus good CD players

    Hi,
How would you compare Bnechmark DAC1 (via a good transport) to a good quality CD player around 1-2k$?

I have a good CD player in which the D/A-unit just has broken. I am considering either bying a new CD player or the benchmark DAC1.

Its versatillity alone is quite attractive let alone all the rave reviews it has gotten. I don't own one but you sound like a prime canidate to get one. I am sure there are many owners who will chime in and help sell it.

Benchmark DAC1 & the Rotel RCD-1072 using CAT Cables, Nordost & Audioquest
      by Jeff
Within the past week, I’ve been able to mix, match and compare the following. Benchmark DAC1, Rotel RCD-1072 using Nordost Red Dawn I/C’s (balanced) and Cat Cables Kingcats RCA’s and Audioquest King Cobra RCA’s.

The Rotel and King Cobra’s I’ve had for a while, the others are...

      Opinion: Denon DP-S1, DA-S1, Benchmark DAC1
      by jteoh1
      Hi,

I’m looking to upgrade my 2-channel system sources. I’m considering Denon DP-S1 CD Transport ($8000 list), DA-S1 DAC ($7000 list) and Benchmark DAC1 ($975). Both DP-S1 and DA-S1 were first released in 1993.

How does the 12-year old 20-bit DA-S1 compare with the...

Last night I put on the bonus DVD that accompanies the Neil Young “Prairie Wind” CD. On the main menu I noticed a high resolution audio option. It’s an audio-only 24-bit 96 kHz recording of the whole of the “Prairie Wind” album. The quality of this recording was so good that I listened to...

      Benchmark or Apogee Mini-dac

      Hey all,

After doing a lot of research on using my PC as a source I have come to the conclusion that it is a very good idea. If you can use your usb outs then you can eliminate the jitter until your dac decodes the signal. If you get the right dac, one with a usb input, then you may...

      b&Ws and Benchmark DAC1
      by Sunshine
      HI,
Is any of you using a benchmark DAC1 with your B&Ws? Some say that the DAC1 is cold & analytical and should not be used with too analytical speakers.

Those of you who do use a DAC1 how do you think it compares with a good quality CD (provided the transport to the DAC1...
