I will be moving into a new place in the middle of November. I have a decent sized room in the fully finished basement of which I can use to setup my home theatre system, which will be running in 2.1 mode. I've got a 42" plasma, a pair of Nat P's and a pair of 12" Rhythmik subs.

The entire room is roughly 21' x 16', however due to a sliding door on the south wall and a closet on the north wall, only about 16' x 9' of this is usable for my system. On the east wall there is a 6' wide fireplace which extends at least a foot into the room. There is also a 3' deep 'nook' in north east corner of the room.
My current idea is to setup the system on the north wall, in front of the nook. Inside the nook I'd like to setup floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, with the pair of subs in front of that. Primary seating will be about 10' away from the screen along the south wall. Obviously this setup is far from ideal for many reasons, however I can't think of any better way to do it.
Does anyone have any better ideas? I would also like to do some simple, non-intrusive wall treatment (I'm thinking flat panels of 703).
