    5 channel NC500 build

    Hi folks

It seems like my THULE Space PA350B is starting to say "goodbye" as I'm getting crackling noices from one channel.
The PA350B was used to drive side, back and center channel (5 channels). Now I have disconnected the side speakers as one channel was making a noise.

Driven by this is starts getting time to get a build going. I think I have enought NC500 modules, and probably also smps1200, laying around to build a 5 channel amp.
My mains is - as you might remember - is already driven by 2 mono-blocks.

I have to check what I have and what I might be missing - but what I'm likely to do is:
    - Use one chasse for all 5 channels
    - Use five nc500 modules
    - Use five nc500 oem converter modules
    - Use 3 smps1200, two will drive 2 channels each and one will drive the center channel
    - Only balanced inputs

This sounds like a good plan, TEK.

I am still going to be slow making contributions to this because of the situation with my GF- we get the Chemo port put in next week, then checked later in the week- following week starts chemotherapy. Haven't done any speaker or audio work in a couple of months...

I am putting together a wiring diagram so Steve Manning can wire up the NC400's with some input transformers and finish that build (I sent him all the parts about this time last year!)

Because of issues at work, I've been working on a special work project much of this holiday break- that and GF have kept me fully occupied.

      Time to get this going...
I have purchased a slimline chassie from modushop.biz.
It arrived quite fast, and when I got home today after a business trip it was wating for me :-)
Not doing anything fancy, just a clean case with a solid front panel (10mm alu).
Same type of box as I used for the monoamps, just bigger.

I also found that I do not have enough oem boards, so I have to order 4 more of those.

The iriginal plan was to use three smps1200 as power source.
One for the center channel and two for the 4 other amps.
I do however have some extra smps
1200, so I wonder if I should use 5, one pr. channel.

      I’m thinking about this layout:

I’ll 3d-print some mounts for the smps, the nc500 and the oem board.

Any comments? Do you think this will be a good layout? Should I look into some other layout?

After some pounding I figured out that I wanted to look into a different layout.
I had concerns about to little space from the power supplies to the top of the case. I also felt that there was to little space between the back of the amp (input/output connections) and the oem converter board.

So I’m looking into the layout shown below.
That give me one «floor» for the power supplies and one for the amps and converter boards.

After some more thinking I’m back to the first layout, but without the bottom.
I think I will mount the smps’ directly to the base. Time to start modelling some mounts for the
          Nc500 and the converter boards...

However, this starts to feel like a cold and lonely place

            Prototype monoblock (NC500OEM/Converter board/SMPS1200)
            by TEK
OK, not going to repeat it all here - but as you all know I'm building two protoyp monoblocks to test the most basic setup possible with the NC500OEM modules - and at the same time get myself a couple of monoblocks to complete my audio/HT setup.

I find that there is a lot of very small...

From my point of view my current "preamp" is my av8801. I feed into it by using hdmi from my computer and it delivers the signals by balanced output connectors to the power amp.
When it comes to HDMI vs coax my experience so far is that hdmi is a dream when it comes to handle all kind...

            Mid bass modules anyone?
            by kevinm
I've been reading up on people using mid-bass modules (bass bins?) to provide that extra oomph in the 50-150hz range. I was gifted an RSS265HF-4 and RSS390HO-4 to play around with from a friend. After looking up builds using the RSS390HO's, I found engr_dave's thread on his quad sealed RSS's (https...

As many of you know, I completed my diy, 3-way speakers called the TailWinds. Because they turned out beautiful, I would like to complete a center channel to match. And just any center channel but a REAL full range center. At least as full range as my TailWind's which feature (2) Peerless CSX 6.5"ers,...

I have need of a better 2 channel amp to plug the last hole in my down stairs setup. My current XPA-2 does double duty for music and theater feeding my Ardents but it's holding them back. Back when Ben was building his NC400's he showed me these Tenor amps and I love the look of them. The amp case has...
