The 1099's are pretty high sensitivity mains at a good price- and the Volt6 should make good surrounds.

I'm gathering these are ALL designed for flush mounting- that helps with sensitivity, as you don't have the 5-6 dB BSC compensation loss.

Do they have any measured data on how these perform? I couldn't find any with a casual look-see...

Thanks for replying Jon. I don't have any measurments but the designer says that they are meant for near wall/behind screen placement and they are a little hot on the high end consequently. I've read as much as I can about them on forums and the reviews seem pretty positive overall.

well, if you get a processor with room EQ capability you can probably tame them without too much work. They should have good dynamics, with those drivers. :T

                krips' HT Build Log

screen is up, but still have to do velvet trim, calibrate, etc. Trying to play it through my speakers in the ht1075, but I seem to only be hearing the surround settings. I remember also having this problem when trying to run surround on my receiver - I had to set it to stereo. Source is my PS3. I might try the blue ray player upstairs and see if that fixes it.

Edit: seems it was my PS3 not liking John wick in atmos. Sony bluray does just fine.

Your attachments aren't working - would really like to see your setup! You might have to put some spaces between the attachment links.

                                  looking very good.
Do you have a link with info to those 1099, so that I know we are talking about the same speaker?
(the link ---k--- posted only got me to a general forum site)

Have you done any consideration about the crossover point?
From what I can see you are planning to have two 21" IB subs. That's hefty stuff and I'm sure you will have no problems getting enough bass in the really low areas.
But are you sure you will be covered in the area a bit higher up, for example from 50 - 150hz?
I'm a bit worried that you might run into some issues integrating your mains and surround channels with the subs.

Jut about any sub of decent size should be fine up to 80hz. Those 1099's look interesting though.....hmmm

Also in the AVS thread the designer said the Volt-10's would be best match for surrounds. Guessing that's a 10" coax?

It has a tweeter connected to the back of the 10" woofer. It's an interesting little design

Here is a rough idea of what I was thinking for my baffle wall. The rear of the cavity will be attached to my foundation wall. The cutouts are for mach5 21" LTE subs. It's roughly 3' deep x 9 1/2' wide x 5' tall, would leave 10x vas for the drivers in the room behind, and would have the horns at ear level-ish. My main concern is that I've never seen IB subs in a 'manifold' like this before and I'm not sure if this design would be strong enough. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just ordered 5 of Jeff Bagby's continuum speaker and a pair of dayton UM12-22 subs. I plan on possibly getting the 3 way upgrade on the continuums for my L/R once I'm done these. Pricey though.

Be warned the the LF design of the Continuum makes them tricky to integrate with subs- it specifically mimics the LS35a BBC mini monitor, which means it has a high Q lift in the response centered at around 110 Hz and rolls off fairly quickly below that. It does not have a standard THX profile for 80 Hz 2nd order high pass to blend with subs using a 2nd order electrical high pass on the speaker and 4th order on the sub. (2nd order normal Q roll off at 80Hz + electrical 2nd order - transfer function matching LR4 LP on woofer).

Other people on the forum have reported having difficulty integrating Continuums in HT. They were really designed as a small music monitor imitating the voicing of the BBC LS35a.

That's unfortunate Jon. I've got $2k invested so far so I'm kind of commited. I have a inuke with dsp to power the subs so I should be able to control the filter through that, no?

It's the high pass that will be tricky, because they weren't designed for standard THX roll off profiles. You have amplitude and phase issues at both the sub end and the "satellite" end to get good transition band response with smooth fill in. If you can tweak around, and measure the results and correct, you should be able to get there, but I'm just passing on things that have been discussed by others here about the Continuums. You might want to do a search on this site and others.
