    focal w drivers

    hi all,
i have a set of jm lab (focal 816s speakers i picked up cheap on the bay)

they have the w sandwich drivers in. i just wondered if anyone knew if the drivers i have are significantly different from the series used in the utopia speakers?

ok so ive semi answered my own question, having taken out the drivers, theres only 2 layers to the cone, and i think the utopia has 3 mines just fiberglass on the front and a foam backing.

correct that- theres alot more too it than i thought. aluminum formers vs kapton ect.

the mid driver on one of these speakers is shot- so im looking into getting a replacement. the model of the driver is 6w4256, im hoping i can replace it with the equivelent driver from the next series -the 6w4'3'56.

having checked the zalytron website (has discontinued focal drivers), the various models available are very similar in t/s perameters using the same number just changing the series -ie the 4251 and the 4351 drivers ect.

im not sure if i should just go for it and buy the 4356 and hope for the best- as i cant find the t/s for my driver to compaire it with anywhere!!

      the drivers are here-http://www.zalytron.com/focal.html

      can anyone help??

Have you asked Zalytron if the drivers are interchangable?

          Hi,

A local "semi professional" enthusiast makes up speakers to order from a range of higher end drivers from companies like Focal, Accuton, Cabasse etc. I heard a pair with two of the 5 inch Accuton mid bass and the Raven 1 tweeter and was impressed. This guy felt that the

Space between drivers of dual driver bass bins
          by 1Michael
Hello all. I am in the process of building my dual 15'' driver bass bins and I am wondering if it matters how the drivers are spaced apart? The inside dimensions are 16.5''w, 24"d, 40''h. They will operate between say 50Hz and 400Hz approximately.
I was planning on a center to center spaceing...

I have a dedicated home cinema/ music listening room where I need a new main speaker, and have for years been experimenting with lots of different drivers from SEAS, Scan Speak, Accuton, Beyma and Fountek and using these drivers in test cabinets. I have however never been fully satisfied have therefore...

          Hi,

I'm having trouble deciding on my new floorstanding front speakers.

          Focal Audiom TD5
          Focal 6WM
          Focal 11WX

Oh great...another 'what speaker' thread. ;)

So it's been quite a few years since I've been around - work, life and just being generally happy with my setup has kept me away. But I'm starting to get back into some good ol' fashioned music listening and I'm finding my current setup just isn't making me happy. So since I've been away and out of...
