Space between drivers of dual driver bass bins

Hello all. I am in the process of building my dual 15'' driver bass bins and I am wondering if it matters how the drivers are spaced apart? The inside dimensions are 16.5''w, 24"d, 40''h. They will operate between say 50Hz and 400Hz approximately.
I was planning on a center to center spaceing of 20" to give a 5" chunk of wood in between (or more) for structural strength. What do you think? Thanks.

I'd use 3" inches of space. On the back side of the baffle epoxy a piece of oak 1" X 2" in the space between the driver openings.

Would that piece of oak run the whole width of the baffle?
