    SS 18W/8531 + SS9700 2 way Designs

I have a pair of Scanspeak 18W/8531 woofers and Scanspeak 9700 tweeters and would like to know if there is an existing design out there utilizing these 2 drivers.

I searched this forum and found 2 designs but both utilized the SS AirCirc tweeters. I really don't have the funds to purchase the AirCirc and can live with the 9700. I just need to find a proven DIY design.

I have no measuring equipment. I just bought the MobilePRE USB sound card. Next is the Behringer mike.

    Any help is appreciated.

Go look at Zaph's ZRT http://www.zaphaudio.com/ZRT.html. I did a variation using the same woofer and the 9800 tweeter which is a metal dome. Your 9700 is the soft dome version of my tweeter. I can share the changes I made in the crossover for my tweeter to work with the overall design and get you most of the way there. You will not need to change much at all for your 9700 to work with this design.

Troels has a design with this woofer and the choice between SS9500 or SS9800. I'm sure he can help you modify the crossover to work with the 9700.

The main hitch is that most of the SS tweeters are 4 ohm, with similar response characteristics (like the 98000), but the 9700 is 6 ohms, almost like they were trying to do a Seas clone for a while. Still, Chuck's approach and suggestions should give you a good starting point.

Just to clarify. I assume I would just follow the box dimensions and woofer crossover of the ZRT design. Would you please share the changes you made to incorporate a 9800 tweeter? Since I do not have measuring equipment, I would maybe use your tweeter crossover and make trial and error adjustments?
          Thanks for the recommendations.

Have someone measure the combination for you and start from scratch. That way you can optimize the design for your drivers. Given the cost of your parts that will allow you to get the best performance from them.

If you can try this crossover out with whatever parts you have lying around. As Jon says the fact that the D2904/9800 is 4 ohms and the 9700 is 6 ohms can throw some things out of whack. L3, R2, and C4 is a filter put in specifically for the 9800. It should probably be changed for the 9700. I am sure that the 2 tweeters exhibit a certain common set of characteristics, but I do not know what they are and I would just be guessing.

                Looking for a specific design
                by Rolex
I'm looking for a design that utilizes all scan speak drivers. I know there is the 6600 with 8531 here on this site. And I know that Troels has the Ekta that utilizes the 7100, 12m, and the 8531. The troels design may work. But I was hoping to use a 6600 tweeter with either a 12m or 15m midrange...

Can someone else run the calcs on this driver (Scanspeak 18W/8531) using a 28.5l vented box? I want to use PE boxes of either .999 ft³ (28.29l), or 1.010 ft³ (28.6l). I'm getting the feeling that these results are off.

                Here's what I get using 28.5l:

                Hey folks,

Anyone know of a proven TM design using the 15W revelator and 6600 aircirc? I know (among others) there's Zaph's ZRT with the 18W and 6600 and the ZD5 with the 15W and XT25 but haven't seen one with this combination. I got the drivers for a decent deal used so I could try...

Need help choosing ScanSpeak either 18W or 22W
                by kstich
So, I have decided that I want to build a large three way speaker using ScanSpeak drivers. I have heard great things about the 18W/8531 from Zaph tests and the designs there and on Troel's site as well.

i actually picked up the 18S/8531 which are on sale. i've been slowly picking out drivers/parts for some new bookshelves and was wondering if the hexagrid grill on the seas tweeter would affect sound if it was waveguide loaded?? i dont have any measuring equipment yet so this project has been slow,...
