    Baffle Width

    Hi all. I am starting box construction on the Modula MT's,Natalie P's, and the
    RS CC this weekend and have just a few questions on baffle width. I want to copy dCraig's design https://www.htguide.com/forum/showth...hlight=natalie but am not sure of the affects that the angle cut sides have on baffle width, diffraction, etc.

    1. Is the front baffle width calculated from the end of the tapers or from the actual width of the sides?

    2. Are there any negative effects with using tapered cut sides as in dCraig's design.

    Tapering or a fillet has a positive effect on baffle diffraction, how larger the radius the better (within reason ofcourse). Normally the dictating width would be the width between the sides (as if no tapering is applied).

    When the sharp edge is smoothed (by tapering or filleting the corner). The sound waves propagating near the corner are less affected to this abrupt change. Obviously the high frequencies with corresponding small wave lengths benefit from this.

    Check Linkwitz' informative site for the physics behind this.

        Some things I learned from baffle diffraction simulations

        I'm designing my first speaker, a simple 2 way MT, and I’m currently looking into various cabinet styles. How might one best control baffle diffraction effects? There are two good free programs out there: Edge and Baffle Diffraction Simulator (BDS). I’ve been trying out various baffle designs to...

        I'm trying to figure out how to design my OB to minimize the amount of cutting I need to do (since my woodworking skills are close to zero). Drivers:

        * 12" woofer
        * 6.5" midrange
        * 10" WG (probably)

        Based on advice in ABCDipole, I'd like the baffle...

        Quick Question, what is baffle step?
        by JoeAngelicchio
        Hi,
        Just wondering what this was. Is there a glossary somewhere on this forum that lists some of the terminology?
        Thanks

        Since I didn't get much response (just one) over on the PE board, I thought I'd try over here. Here's my query: Can anyone point me to a formula or a discussion on how to determine what the diffraction frequency of a given baffle width with a waveguide of a given depth? Or is it depth and width of waveguide...

        Baffle diffraction step Vertical vs. Horizontal ?
        by Eton
        When designing a Baffle diffraction step, all calculations are based on width of the baffle the assumption that the speaker is placed vertically.
        So, we have a perfect x-over that has the baffle step for reduction in high frequency at a calculated F3.
        Now what happens when the same...
