Jen and I were talking this weekend and - knock me over with a feather! - she has wholeheartedly agreed to several major modifications to our little dedicated HT room. What started out as a simple job of adding French doors has become this:
This is going to be fun. :T
I won't be able to start on it for a few weeks (mid-August is my target) as I have another project to wrap up first. I'll be sure and keep a complete photo journal this time. That's the one regret I have from the old house and my HT room project there - we didn't get all of it in pictures. You can see a few photos of the room as-is by following the link in my signature.
We're doing this because frankly, our HT room is too small at 13 feet 6 inches by 12 feet. Recessing the Pioneer into the master closet will put another 2 feet between the screen and the seating positions which will give a feeling of a larger room. This will also clean up/open up the soundstage by getting that big box out of the way. The center channel will go on an adjustable floor stand in front of the TV, between the mains. Recessing the equipment rack into to the wall (good thing the master closet is so big!) will help the soundstage and roominess, not to mention giving easy access to the rear panels of the components. The surround speaker cable runs will require a good bit of sheetrock work - especially since I want to make use of my Yamaha's center-rear channel. The wall treatments, carpet and curtains are for sonic and also for cosmetic reasons. The wall sconces are a nice touch, but I wonder if the room is too small to have them work well?
This is the outline in a nutshell. I'll be posting here as things progress. Wish us luck!

- - build opening in wall to recess RPTV
- build second opening in this wall to recess electronics into
- run speaker cabling to surrounds via in-wall cables
- paint upper portions of walls and put pleated fabric on lower portion
- install mahogany French doors and sidelights w/transom
- replace "builders" carpet with a color-matched Berber
- replace existing curtains with a color-matched set
- put matching curtains on French doors
- maybe, install wall sconce lighting
This is going to be fun. :T
