Though I don't own a laptop (as I really have no need for one) I've helped a few pople shop for them and tower PC systems. In both cases it's pointless to buy a "brand name" unit as they're made from the same (or sometimes inferior) pieces that you could pick yourself and for a LOT cheaper. I also remember hearing a rumour a while back that companies such as Lite-On make things like DVD-Rom drives for the "brand names" as well so again you're better off just buying the Lite_on and skipping the markup.
That's not a bad deal for those AMD laptops. It's too bad there isn't more AMD options out there in ready-made land for laptops and PC's. Intel is the Boss of the computer chip world though....lol

Hey what do you guys think of these ones:
http://www.acer.com/APP/AKC/INTERNET...1?OpenDocument I can get these for $1291.00 - $1421.00 CA depending on OS and model etc.
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...=1&WLBS=fsweb9 I can get this for $1599 after rebate.
I've got to get a laptop for our US office for mostly e-mail and spreadsheets. I'd say these should be more than enough
It seems to save even a couple hundred off these you've got to go way down in equipment.

by Ten 99Hello all.
I (or rather my wife) is in the market for a new laptop. She has had Dell Latitudes for her last two laptops, and they have been good, but not spectacular. There have been a few probs with both of them, but nothing too horrible.

by Chris DAlthough I REALLY don't want to buy a new laptop now, it looks like my old one may be dead. I'm having a hard time finding one that meets my needs, although I don't think I'm too demanding.

by Andrew PrattI'm semi seriously looking to buy a laptop. The plan is I'd use it as my main PC and give my wife my current PC and we'd sell off her old clunker. I've been shopping around a bit and I came across a few that look like good deals. One in perticular is the Compaq Presario 2105CA or this link at Future... -

by ThomasWGiven all the bucks I spend on A/V gear I have to economize somewhere. So I set a ~$1K limit for my laptops. It's pretty amazing what that amount buys in todays market.
