I recently received a Sharp XV-S90U LCD projector and Sharp motorized screen (about 7' wide) from a relative for free because he was upgrading his system. I know the projector is old (8 yrs. or so) but it only has around 200 hrs. on it. (He has a lot of toys he never really uses). The picture looks good but there is a high pitch noise (like a whiny sound, similar to the underlying noise Sharp or Hitachi TVs make, but much louder) when it is turned on. That is only the only problem I've encountered. Does any one have any experience with this or should I just chalk it up to an old projector or an inherent mahine noise? Should I bother looking into service for this?
projector problem?

Is it the fan that's making the noise? If it is it *might* be possible to replace it with a quieter version.- Bottom

Maybe its just a Sharp thing then. My bedroom TV is a Sharp and it makes a high pitch noise that's constatnly there, even if its muted. Not bad for most people, but my ears are good and I can hear it. I have gotten use to it by now, but the projector it way louder. It seems more of an electric sound not mechanical noise (like as a fan).- Bottom

It could be a switchmode power supply operating at a relatively low frequency (cheaper components), that is causing audible vibration in the power transformer, for example.
Might be easier to solve the problem by making a simple hood/husbhox lined with acoustical foam; just have to allow for air ventillation, and of course, let the light out! :W
