    Optoma HD79 and Blueray

What exactly will be happening when I pass 1080p to my 720p projector ?

Will the PJ scale to 1080i ? I don't know.

your 720P projector can only display 720P, nothing more nothing less. I believe that's called 1 to 1 Pixel mapping. so if you send 480P it will scale it up to 720P and if you send it 1080P it will scale down to 720P. No digital PJ can do 1080i AFAIK. No big loss IMO, I didn't like 1080i on my screen and 1.2 seating distance.

Definitely an HD source like BD. How much a difference may depend on your screen size, but with that seating distance, I definitely think you will.

The best image is going to be a 720HD signal direct to the PJ. If your using a BD player set it's "max output" to 720P and that way you will avoid having the projectors built in scaler doing any down-scaling the image and introducing artifacts.

At this time I use an Oppo 971 upconverting (SD-DVD) to 720p.

So when I get a BR player just set it to 720p native to my PJ...ok.

Here's my "new" DVD player, the Samsung DVD-HD1000.

This DVD player was really a surprise. I'd not heard of it, until accidentally finding one used on the net. Not knowing what it was, I went to the Samsung site to research it. What I saw was a beautiful player, that exuded...

                VOOM Satellite is busting loose!
                by Sonnie Parker
Voom is really makin' some noise in the satellite world. Especially in the HD area as they are now up to 37 HD channels (21 of those exclusive to VOOM) and have more on the way in June.

We've posted a little on this in the past but they haven't had much offering up until recently....

That's a Samsung DVD-HD1000 DVD player, reputed to upconvert 480P DVD to 1080i or 720P! However, there is a catch. DVDs that are copy protected will cause the screen to flicker, then it's converted back to 480P. I do understand there's a mod for this, that I assume would make it upconvert...

Here's my "new" DVD player, the Samsung DVD-HD1000 40 pounds of joy. It's actually slightly used, but showed no real signs of it. New used, we'll call it.

It's pretty amazing to see the full 1080p projectors available for under $4000, but even more amazing to see how that has driven down the prices of native 720p projectors.

The two that have recently caught my attention are the Mitsubishi HD1000U and the Optoma HD70.

                Both...
