wow the new panasonics are ugly

That's why I like the commercial panels. All black and look great. Same glass as the consumer models and way cheaper.

as the build quality reminds me of a honda civic with a glued on body kit
personaly i think they should have kept the same frame just made it black as a black frame is what EVERYONE asks for

You mistyped I said "Commercial Panasonic Panels". Cheaper than the Pioneer by over $1,000 or so and 90% of the picture quality. My friends' panel looks gorgeous.

There is no way I'd buy a Consumer model plasma. Too many gadgets I'd never use like speakers plus you gotta pay the markup and deal with sales people. DRECK!

on display the sony s2000 does have much better contrast ratio compare to the older bravia
BUT it isnt a fair comparison since it is using its atsc tuner while the bravia is fed off a hard drive with component
same general shape but the pannel is slightly round
very plastic looking while last years gave an impression of much better build quality

the panasonics have a very plastic look that is hard to capture on my digital camera
definite step back from last years elegant design
note the double reflections due to the double pained panel, much less egregious than some others but still worth noting
price point is 500 less than last year
has two hdmi inputs
no instantly noticeable improvements in contrast or refresh rates although they claim profound improvements


i thought these two were ugly but then i saw the samsungs :yuk:
seems the industry is moving towards a wife friendly slash pimp my ride aesthetic

I agree. These new designs seem to appeal to a new demographic of consumers. It is just sad that manufacturers have to stoop so low as to make tvs with the appearance of an oven door so they are “less scary” to soccer moms. What’s next? They going to bring back nobs on the tv to change channels?

Sorry to go on a tangent, but I feel that manufacturers are loosing site of what the educated consumer wants..OPTIONS!!!!! Make big screen tvs like Dell computers. If you want 4 hdmi ports...sure!!! If you want 3 tuners...sure!!! I'd definitely pay a little more if I can get all the options I want and not have to waste my time researching every model that comes out to compare specs.

I guess that is why people turn to the industrial versions of the tvs in stores.

Just my 2 cents.

also i have never had a customer say "does this black tv come in silver?"
it is always the inverse... dayly i hear it
the lack of hdmi inputs and certain models lack of atsc tuners is blatant too
i do not believe that they contrubute to the end cost at all
purely marketing

I bought a new Pioneer Elite PRO-1130HD a few weeks ago and the fact that the bezel is piano black was a big reason why I went with this particular panel. Of course, the superior picture quality didn't hurt either

I just made it over to CC to check out these new sets and I'm very impressed with the picture quality for the price. I wonder if you can take off the bezel and just paint and poly it black...hmmm
