Hi all, still looking at buying a projector.Max screen size I can fit in is 90 inch and so my question is.Can I place pro on shelf at a distance of about 17ft and still get an image to fit 90 inch screen or would I have to ceiling mount at a shorter distance ?Could some pro's do this or would most be able to do this?
Basic question on distances

well using the projection calculator at projectorcentral.com you can throw 130" with 1.3x zoom with a sanyo plv-z3. so yes i'm willing to say that you will have no problem throwing a 90 inch picture at 17 feet, possibly with no zoom at all. i would advise you to go to www.projectorcentral.com and find your projector and do the calculations... the gain of your screen matters some to as far as getting optimal picture that is neither too bright or not bright enough. though i am no expert whatsoever i'm sure you could do this yourself... unless your a complete butterfingers

how far are you sitting away from the screen? If you goal is to be as far away from the projector itself as possible, there is a few projectors out there that has a long throw. The Panasonic AE700 comes into mind. But, if you are sitting about 17 feet away, I'd go with a screen at least 100" if not even 120". But different strokes for different folks right?- Bottom

I would be sitting about 13ft away.It would be a bit easier by having pro on back wall shelf as opposed to ceiling mount as far as power cord etc. Unfortunately 90 inch is max at this stage because we have an entertainment unit which stands about 5 ft tall, and this houses tv,audio and av gear.Because we have 10 ft ceilings I can throw the image above the ent unit and not have the wife on my back about getting rid of ent unit.Obviously getting rid of ent unit and having 100 -130 inch screen would be the ideal, but as most of you are probably aware, its not that easy.- Bottom
