Motorola has unveiled a new technology called Nano Emissive Display (NED) in which carbon nanotubes are grown directly on glass. They have demonstrated a 5" color video display prototype and claim that the display characteristics meet/exceed CRT. They also estimate that the production costs for a 40" display could be less than $400. Although its probably a little out there on the horizon, I thought you might interested.
