    Toshiba DLP anyone experiences?

I've been checking out some sets for a bedroom armoire. I want to get the biggest set that I can fit into the bloody thing. This seems like it fits the bill. I can get it for $2,450.00 (CDN) without the stand. What do you think?

Looks like a nice set. The Mustang HD2+ chip looks great.

Have you considered a plasma as an alternative? You can find 42" plasmas for a little more $ (not sure how much in Canada though). The LG plasmas have a really nice picture.

What are you planning to watch on the set? HDTV? Cable/satellite? DVD?

Ken, I saw one last weekend - if you have, take a copy of The Incredibles, watch the scene where Mr. I and Frozone are in the car listening to the scanner...
It's a dark scene, and the HD2 chip goes into fits trying to resolve the different shades of black... (They look kinda greenish where the black stuff goes, sorta like satellite macroblocking, but really really dark green....)

Otherr than that, it is an awfull sweet set.

Oh, 2600 with the stand was the price I was quoted, so your price sounds fair.

          Thanks Kevin,

This set would be mainly for NTSC satellite (BEV), but would add an HD receiver fairly soon. For some reason I can't find a plasma that's 40" wide. They all seem to have speakers on the sides. I need the speakers on the bottom, because my master plan of having 5.1 in the bedroom is a few years away.

          Thanks Ben,

I thought the new DLPs were getting better with blacks. I guess I'll have to check them out. The guy I was talking with sounded as if he was selling his granny, with the "deal" he quoted. Maybe I could squeeze a little more out of him.

            Ken,
If it matters, the Commercial plasmas don't have speakers.. and they are quite a bit cheaper.
The LG plasmas have a really nice picture
With Standard Def stuff I didn't care for the LG's.

              Oops, sorry.

I forgot to mention, the problem I mentioned is called dithering.

The New Panny's that are shipping in June have speakers on the bottom of the screen. They are gutted though, just like the comercial ones just about. No tunner, etc. Good thing about the new ones is they are LOTS cheaper than last years HD plasma's. A 42 inch new model Panny might work. I regret that I do not have the dementions for the new panny to post. But the speakers on the bottom would make it not as wide.

                Good Luck,

The Bitterness of poor quality last longer than the joy of low prices.

I saw a new Panansonic brochure at a local dealer for the new plasmas. They have a 37" that would fit, speakers on bottom. They're supposed to appear mid-May. I'll have to have a look when they arrive. Waaaay more than the Toshiba DLP, The 37" Panny is 4K (CDN). The bezels on all the plasmas are too wide to go any larger. Isn't that weird that a 44" DLP rear projection would have smaller width dimensions than a 42" Plasma (no side speakers)?
