I'm not sure if using the two together is the correct way of doing things. It seems like they would cancel each other or something. The input being used is the Hi-def component.

You should try both ways, but not at the same time. My TV upconverts to 1080i automatically, so my DVD progressive scan is set to off.
whichever is newer or better should be the one to go with.- Bottom

That was the advice given to me on my hitachi from hitachi since I can't turn off the upconversion of the TV (everything is upconverted to 1080i). This way your feeding the television the 'raw' signal. Its hard to do an a/b comparison, the difference is subtle.- Bottom

Well, I like the progressive signal produced by the dvd player (toshiba) vs. 3:2 off my RCA. I finally have the picture that I've been expecting.

As I understand it selectable scan rates that are a multiple of the film's frame rate (24 frames per sec) will eliminate the need for the pulldown conversion!...Just another reason to think HTPC...
