I realize this bombed at the boxoffice, and it didn't get very good reviews overall, but frankly I enjoyed this film. It was much more gritty and realistic than Duke Wayne's version ( which I also like) with a much different ending as well. The way people dressed during that period is probably much more realistic in this version as well. I liked Billy Bob Thornton as Davey Crockett, and Jason Patrick was okay as Jim Bowie, but Dennis Quaid seemed miscast here. He wears a constant scowl that starts to wear on you after awhile. I like Quaid and most of his work, but his version of Sam Houston just didn't sit right with me.
The soundtrack, now that is something else. It is DD 5.1 EX track with lots of stuff going on all around you. And the cannon shots will scare the heck out of you if you have a good sub in your HT.
Not Oscar material, but a pretty darn good effort and worth :35: in my book anyway.
