This film stars Billy Bob Thorton and Tony Cox as a couple of crooks using the Santa/Elf thing ( Billy Bob is Santa, Cox the Elf) as a means to robbing department stores on Christmas eve, and stealing enough money to vacation for the rest of the year. John Ritter, in his last performance, plays a smaller role as a nervous department store manager. Seeing him in his last role was a little sad.
Billy Bob is excellent as the Bad Santa character. He's a man of low esteem, a drunkard with a foul mouth and a bad attitude toward others. His character is disgusting, revolting and a few hundred similar adjectives to boot. It's hard to believe there is anything worthwhile in this man, but after a chubby kid, also of low esteem, and a gal who likes making out with Santas enters his life, we begin to see that there may be some hope after all.
Tony Cox also does a great job as the little person in the Elf role. He doesn't get as much screen time as Thorton, but when he's up there he steals the show.
The Coen Brothers had a hand in this film, as producers only, but their sometime off the wall view of humanity is present here. This is not a Christmas movie for kids. Far from it. It's R rated, shocking most of the time, and may even disgust and offend some viewers. I have to say I really enjoyed the show.
PQ is adequate and sound, although non-aggressive, was fitting.
