DUPLEX is a Danny Devito film, so you know it's gonna be a black comedy. It stars Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore as a young couple itching to own their own home, so they end up buying this duplex. They love the place, but it comes with a tenant with a lease to be honored. The tenant is an old lady played by Eileen Essel who ( according to the real estate agent) is on her last legs and should not live out the lease. Well, there's more to this than meets the eye, and the old gal proceeds to make life miserable for our now unhappy young couple. How they go about trying to get rid of her is hilarious, and somewhat akin to the Wiley Coyote cartoons. One scene in particular involves The Clapper, you know, the gadget that turns electrical things on and off with a clap of the hands. I was rolling out of my chair in laughter.
A very entertaining 90 minutes. Highly recommended to those who need a good laugh.
