    Red Dragon

This is the prequel, ala Manhunter, to Silence of the Lambs.

So many thought this was a boring movie, but I really enjoyed it. After Hannibal, which I hated, I was timid about renting this. It isn't Silence of the Lambs, or perhaps not even Manhunter, but it is leagues above Hannibal, which, imo, was just a poorly written caricature of the Hannibal Lecter. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.

Am I too easy to please or is this a pretty good film?

Keith, I liked Red Dragon. Edward Norton was okay, but it's hard to beat William Petersen's portrayal in Manhunter. The original still does it for me.

Afreed. I think Ed Norton is an INCREDIBLE actor. Have you seen America History X or Primeal Fear?

But I ma a huge fan of Manhunter and really like Petersen's work in that. So I was going into Red Dragon with a love /hate relationship.

I think Red Dragon is great, both Sir anthony and Norton did a wonderful job, as always. But I still prefer Manhunter.

As long as people will accept crap, it will be financially profitable to dispense it.

I like them both. How's that for fence-sitting?

I saw Manhunter when it first came out, purchased the Director's-cut DVD and have seen it several times, so I went into Red Dragon with my mind somewhat already made up against it. Edward Norton's performance along with Sir Anthony's and Ralph Fiennes' brought me around in a hurry, tho'. I highly recommend both - not only as stand-alone stories, but also for the novelty of seeing two very fine attempts to tell the same story.

I think I'll rent Manhunter again today. Haven't seen it for years and would be interesting, with this latest release still fresh in my mind.

Keith, re: Norton. I saw both the films you mentioned. he is indeed an awesome actor. He will only get better with age.

I had some reserves about seeing this one. I felt that I would miss Jodie Foster. I was wrong.

This movie best the original imo. Not taking anything from the "Lambs" but, Hannibal seemed to got that step further as a good movie should.

                Superior acting, great story,...

If you like this movie (and I do) or are just thinking about getting it be aware...word is that the two disc SE is a lousy transfer, with only 2.0 sound and the longer "Red Dragon" version that was supposed to come out, is only 3 minutes longer than the single disc version...and to top it...

                Hannibal Rising had its moments...
                by George Bellefontaine
... but in the end, I felt it was like one overlylong flashback. Glad I only rented it. And sheesh, I sure they could have found an actor that looked more like a young Anthony Hopkins. This young Hannibal Lecter was downright ugly.
