    Watched Wise Girls last night...

It is a movie about a girl ( Mira Sorvino ) who moves to New York and gets a job working in a restaurant that is owned and caters to the mafia. Things get a little too cosy as the wiseguys butter her up with tips and extra attention, but there is a price to pay and it is a big price.

It was filmed in my old hometown ( Halifax) so that's how I knew about this film. Otherwise, this will probably be overlooked by most as it didn't even make it to the theaters in this part of the world. Blockbuster only had one copy on the rental shelf. Now this isn't Oscar material or anything, but there's some pretty good acting from Sorvino ( even Mariah Carey wasn't that bad) so it is worth a watch if you see it anywhere.

Something about Mira, though. She looked awfully thin compared to the last film I saw her in. Hope she doesn't have that eating disorder.

    Rega Mira and B&W speakers
    by JazzCrimes
I'm looking for an integrated amp to pair with my B&W CM7s. I've heard the Mira with both Rega and Totem speakers, however, I've been unable to find a dealer that carries the Mira and B&W speakers. The other (safer) option is a Rotel 1520, which I did demo with the CM7s with good results. ...

A lotta movie making going on here
    by George Bellefontaine
Matt Brouska's post made me aware of just how much filming is going on here in Nova Scotia. Two hot one's will be THE SHIPPING NEWS, starring Kevin Spacey and Judy Dench. Some of the scenes were shot at The Halifax Herald, a daily newspaper where I got my start in the publishing business.

    Robert Wise Passed Away
    by David Meek
Robert Wise, one of the most talented and reconizable (from his movies) directors/editors in Hollywood has passed away from heart failure at 91. I knew he had made some of my favorite films, but when I went to IMDB and looked him up it shocked me. The man had a way with films - any kind of film -...
