The Final Countdown - A WARNING!

Five months and ten days after ordering this DVD from Pacific Family Entertainment, it showed up on my doorstep this Friday. I was pumped! An anamorphic image and DD soundtrack of a favorite old "guilty pleasure" movie. Well folks:

Don't touch this one! Run away!
    The quality absolutely SUCKS!
    :uhoh:

All right, that's off my chest. Talk about disappointed. No anamorphic display. Very poor image, period - soft to the point of being fuzzy. Very little surround speaker activity at all. The dialog is understandable (oh boy). I had a VHS copy at one time that was much preferable to the image on this DVD. Part of me knew that this was a possibility when dealing with a small production company, but I wanted it to be what they said it was going to be. Oh well, after all, it is only a movie.

That's to bad, This was one of my eventual purchases as I really enjoyed this movie. I guess I'll have to change my plans for this one.

I was going to pre-order this but for some reason didn't. Boy am I glad. I was talking to someone else who has a copy and he mirrored David's remarks.
That really sucks. Will we ever see a decent transfer of this terrific film ?

I made the mistake of pre-ordering the original The Final Countdown DVD (poorly mastered by Pacific Family Entertainment), which quickly earned the status as "worst quality DVD" in my collection of around 850 discs. 8O ops:

It was by far the worst DVD that I ever bought,...

        Anamorphic = Difference?

I presented this elsewhere but thought you guys may be interested....

I tried to capture a comparision between anamorphic and non anamorphic on my system. My XBR does the compression if the DVD player is set to 16x9. While the pictures hardly do real justice to the differences, I find...

This has been posted on PE and edesignaudio.com but thought I would post it up here. I'm much more of a lurker here since I don't feel my audio prowess is quite up to that of most of this board. ;x(

I'm just about to complete it, hence it being in this section and not the Mission Accomplished...

Since I'm just getting my new Toshiba Widescreen RPTV in I've been trying to understand a little more about Anamorphic and Non-Anamorphic DVD's.

Basically I know Anamorphic is better, but why?

I happen to be looking at 2 DVD's that are not on the Anamorphic database at...

        Anamorphic Lens on Projectors?
        by Chris D
I'm wondering what experience anyone has had using anamorphic lenses to change a 4:3 native resolution projector into one that naturally shows 16:9 widescreen, utilizing FULL vertical resolution. George, I know you specifically use your NEC PJ, which is native 4:3, but do you use an anamorphic lens?...
