I always knew Jason Statham could act when he had the right material, and in the case of REDEMPTION, he has the right material in spades. He plays a British soldier who goes AWOL after a bad incident in Afghanistan. To disappear he becomes a homeless, drunken wretch. He gets a chance to get his life back when he has an opportunity to seize another man's identity. As well, local Chinese mobsters hire him as a strong arm collector. He does some nasty things, but when he falls for a nun he met while a street person, she works on his conscience and he soon feels compelled to turn his life around, especially for his estranged wife and daughter. What he does next...well that would be giving things away.
Some Statham fans may not like this dark gritty film, because it is not the usual Statham fare. But trust me, it is a well written, well acted film worth seeing. I liked it enough to buy it.
