    Some early Russel Crowe on....

The Quick And The Dead. I totally forgot he was in this movie, along with Gene Hackman, Leonardo DeCaprio, and a grubby looking, but still gorgeous Sharon Stone. This was released in theaters in 1995 and is about a town in the ol' west, practically owned and run by a very mean Hackman. He puts up money for quick draw contests with the winner taking all. But every now and then Hackman changes the rules and soon the new rule is only the winner lives.
It was nice revisiting this film. Russel is quite good, as are all the rest. It is well written and well directed. Picture is not reference but okay, and sound is good when called on. The story moves in several layers and one important layer is revenge.

I have started to rent this film several times, then didn't because, I just could not see DeCaprio in a western...

However, with you giving it the thumbs up, I'll put it in my rental queue.

Being from Texas, at times I have fairly tough standards for Westerns. This one had a few problems, but overall is worth at least a rental - just suspend your disbelief. Russel Crowe did a nice job, and doesn't Gene Hackman make a good villian? He has the most sinister smile when he wants to. Enjoy Sharon in those leather pants, too.

One thing I have to say is, you don't get sunshine showing completely through the body after it is shot with a .45 slug!

      I give it :3:

Yeah, David's right. You have to check your brain at the door on this one in parts. But this is a Sam Raimi film ( you know, The Evil Dead fella) so you're going to see some pretty incredible stuff like daylight though a bullet hole in the body.

seeing daylight though the built hole near the end completely ruined this one for me and I have no desire to watch it again...even if Sharon's in it

Speaking of early Russel Crowe check out the 1994 film "for the moment" staring Russel Crowe. It was filmed in the town I went to university in. Most of the scenery is all local as well though a lot of liberties were taken on travel time

Not available on Blu as yet, but I bought it on standard dvd anyway. Watched it last night and really liked it. A GOOD YEAR

Some may call it a romantic comedy but the romance is really secondary to the story of a highly successful London stock trader ( Russell Crowe) who changes from A-hole to a decent sort. This happens after he must return to the South of France ( winemaking country) to settle...
