    What's Up With May Releases?!?!?

    8O I was just looking at DVD Empire's Upcoming Releases list and in the month of May they have the following movies listed FOR FULLSCREEN ONLY releases! FULLSCREEN!

    The Abyss
    Anna & The King
    Big Mamma's House
    Cast Away
    Edward Scissorhands
    Entrapment: Special Edition
    Independence Day
    Lake Placid
    Men Of Honor
    Predator

    PS. Personally, I couldn't care less about Big Momma's House, but it's the principle. . . . This is a sucky development! :evil:

      You didn't like "Big Mama's House"? Hmmm, I thought it was quite funny.

      I too don't understand the full screen re-release either but, oh-well.

          Re fullscreen, it's probably the blockbuster effect; as in, BlockBuster affected those studios to release the versiont they want to rent to Joe Six Pack.

              Not only are these Pan & Scan releases, they are just the movie only, no extra's.

              It is a case of Fox wanting to also capture more of the regular market. What is especially troubling, is that I read that they were 'cancelling', not sure if that's the right word, the UPC codes for the 2 disc SE editions. Now that could be the case where they already have enough warehoused to continue fullfillment. But it could also mean that once that batch of 2 disc editions run out, no more will be printed.

              If anything, Pan & Scan is even worse than rental pricing. I think rental pricing was a smokescreen and the whole Pan & Scan demand/preasure just got more intense with all those new DVD players sold last year.

                  Like Paul said, it's Fox and a few others giving in to the demands of Blockbuster and J6P. I did a post on this under AV Chalet titled "Look Out People, Trouble Ahead."
