    Cowboys and Aliens ?????

Okay, I really wasn't sure about this one. I love Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, and I love westerns as well as sci-fi. But westerns and sci-fi together ? So I said, aw what the hell and bought the blu-ray. I won't say much about this other than Craig plays a western bad guy who wakes up with a strange bracelet on his wrist and this leads to him connecting up with another bad guy ( Harrison Ford ) and they team up to rescue some western folk from marauding aliens. Sounds silly, doesn't it. Well it is silly to a degree, but for some reason or other the director and stars pull it off and it ends up being 2 plus hours of exciting filmwork. My wife doesn't like westerns, but she really enjoyed Cowboys and Aliens. Go figure.

So go get this one, either as a rental or a buy, because, aside from the strange pairing of cowboys and aliens, there is a helluva action packed story, fantastic cinematography and ball busting audio. :T

I've heard a lot of mixed things about this movie, and you're generally pretty critical of movies so I'm going to have to watch this now.

Well I hope I haven't misled you guys . But, as you all know, I calls 'em as I see 'em.

Lee, I pretty much see a lot of sci-fi stuff as cowboys in space. Look at Star Wars. Take away the spaceships and put the heros on horses and you got yourself a western.

I picked it up yesterday and we watched it last night. It was pretty good, the soundtrack was amazing! That first big explosion on the cows sounded like I had a sub in the house! I was like WOW.

I have two subs, so you can imagine what it must have sounded like in my theater. Glad you liked the movie.

                        George,

Like you, I enjoyed it. I blind bought the Steelbook version Target was selling. I was sold at the idea of a Western/Sci-fi flick. Adding Craig & Ford with a decent story and IMO very solid effects, what's not to like?

It was after all a popcorn flick. Great fun, glad I bought it.

Just finished watching this. Enjoyed for the B-movie with A-list stars and effects that it is. Watched the extended version (maybe that made it better--not always the case but can be). Subwoofer got a workout.

I watched it also due to the incessant nagging by my 14 year old daughter to do so. It really was not that bad. I actually expected much worse and in the end enjoyed it. For me it gets 5.5 out of 10.

Given what I've since read about what was cut from the theatrical version (almost all the stuff with the Apache before the final assault, for one thing), I'm certain the longer cut is an improvement (and probably would have garnered friendlier reviews if released theatrically).

I was pleasantly "surprised" (not really, given George's recommendation) of how enjoyable this one was as well. Finally got around to watching it with a buddy the other night. Definitely a fun, worthwhile popcorn flick :T

                                      Watched it. Consider me underwhelmed.

Many plot holes... hover over spoilers below (do not hover if you haven't seen the film!)

Ok, the aliens were after gold to power their space ships. You mean, these aliens that are smart enough to build advanced space crafts capable of interplanetary voyages, formidable structures and weaponry need something like gold for fuel? Also, like most alien films, they are always smart enough to build such advanced space crafts, structures and weaponry, yet the aliens themselves are always unsophisticated, brooding, dirty and unwashed, savage barbarians with little tactical prowess. How can that be? Things like this always put a damper on the enjoyment for me.
A camera, passport, good music, good food and good company is all I need.

On the surface it looks like a film that wouldn't appeal to me but, I admit that I am very intrigued. Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, must be some reason that the producers are willing to pay their salaries on what looks like a nothing movie....
