The Town is top notch filmmaking

Ben Affleck directed and co-wrote the screenplay for this excellent film about four Boston bankrobber friends being hunted by the FBI following their latest heist where a young bank clerk was taken hostage. It stars Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner as the key characters ( friends ) and how their relationship is affected after Affleck connects with the hostage and falls in love with her. The character driven performances, as well as tension packed action scenes and a real authentic feel made this one of the best films I have seen this year.

    Highly recommended. :T :T :T :T :T

X2 :T Saw it in the cinema a few months ago, nice flick.

I'm guessing based on your review posted today that it's available on those shiny plastic discs now....

Yes, I watched it on blu-ray. There were two versions, the extended cut and the theatrical version. I watched the extended cut first and will watch the theatrical cut later.

          Very good movie....

One of my best friends was a 'townie'...rest his soul.I thought about him while watching the movie. All of the portrayals in the movie,I am sure he would have approved of.
As he once told me,a lot of guys he grew up with became bank robbers because that was the family business.Much like other families go into law, medicine or whatever. As he said,it's tradition...
He also told me how some guys got caught because they would do a job while wearing their high school jacket...with their name and class year on it.

There a few scenes cut short in the BR from the theater. It actually ticked me off. Especially since I noticed the first one within the first few minutes of the movie.

Other than that I really enjoyed it and its a must to any collection IMO.

Excellent film. I grew up not far from Boston (my hometown gets a brief mention in the film) and while I'm not a "townie", I know the area well enough to know the film struck a fine note of authenticity.

On a technical note, the filmmakers pulled off something I would have thought impossible--a good car chase in colonial Boston streets.
