Everybody's Fine will hit home to many

Robert Deniro stars as a recently retired widower out of touch with his adult children. After a family weekend barbecue event falls flat, he sets out on a cross country journey to visit each of his four adult children in an effort to make a connection and bring the family back together. He has always been under the impression that his children were successful and happy in their adult lives, but one by one he encounters one disapointment after the other.

This is the best Deniro performance in sometime. The film is all about his character and,as we've come to expect from Deniro, he carries the film with ease, making you see the charcater rather than the actor . There are also good supporting performances by Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale.

This is a poignant, true-to-life drama that may make you uncomfortable if you, like me, perhaps expected too much of your children in adult life. Like Deniro, I discovered that just because my kids didn't meet my expectations, didn't mean they weren't successful and happy in their own lives.

Everybody's Fine is a well constructed, well acted film that will leave you thinking about it long after the credits fade.

Sounds like a good one Sir George. Although like you suggest, it may hit a little closer to home than is comfortable for us parents of grown children. FWIW, we struggled with a brilliant underachiever (that finally turned the corner at 23) and a go-getter that had to do and experience everything NOW. It'll be interesting to see how close (if at all) the movie's situations parallel our experiences.

And hey, it's got Robert De Niro in it. :T

          Greetings,

Thanks George. I have seen the trailer for Everybody's fine and thought that it looked quite good. I am not quite at the stage you all are just yet, my kids are 18 and 16 but I can relate somewhat.
          Regards,

Hi, Ralph. As you can see, my little reviews are nothing like the indepth ones you do. What I try to do here at The Guide is just give enough information so that members can decide whether or not they want to give it a rental or perhaps a buy. Some of my little reviews are a mix of Blu-ray and standard DVD because not all Blu-ray releases are available in this town. In the case of Everybody's Fine, I watched it on standard DVD and was amazed at how much the upconverted transfer looked like hi-def .

So the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete blu-ray was released this past Thursday, April 16th, in Japan. It won't be released in the US until June, but I just finished watching the movie, so I wanted to post my review.

Okay, I admit it. There IS one drawback to living on this island. I can't see Children Of Men as it goes into wide release today. It'll take a few weeks to make it up here. Phooey.

I have some seriously high hopes for this film and it's been receiving almost universally...

A few days ago a sudden storm and nearby lightning hit caused a power failure with a big boom, outside where the lightning hit and inside through the speakers in my system. What is a "Sleeper Hit"?
                by Gordon Moore
You see the term "Sleeper" referred to some movies. I was just curious as to the definition.

Pirates is being referred to as a "sleeper hit".

Is it a movie that beats the odds?

                cheers,

                Gord
