    Leon: The Professional

I read the review for this Bluray release in Widescreen, got top ratings for picture and sound. We have it on DVD and it's one of my favorite movies and so I'll be picking this one up.

I agree John, a great movie. Great performances through and through, from Jean Reno, Natalie Portman, Gary Oldham to Danny Aiello. Luc Besson really got my attention with this one.

Its a great film. The UK version is 26 mins shorter because they cut out all the dodgy underage girl relationship bits, and still gave it an 18 certificate. The first time I saw a directors cut I was amazed how the friendship between the main characters grows. It really is a fantastic story, very well directed, and one I'll be picking up on BR too.

The Blu-ray PQ is fantastic, as is the audio. You'll be glad you bought it, John.

Glad to here it George ... I look forward to seeing that again. Great story and acting. Some movies like this one are just special to me. I kind of like these odd movies. The movie "Withnail and I" is another that's one special to me. Don't think that's on bluray though.

Edit: I was wrong, another one I have to buy.

You know, I liked this movie and thought it was good. I guess I've never quite understood why a lot of people find it so special, though. There certainly are a lot of people that do, so this is just one of those times where I kind of miss what the majority see, I guess.

Didn't know this one was out or coming out- the DVD was a long time favorite- will have to have it in Blu Ray.

Chris, let's just say we each have our own taste and different emotional resonances in response to movies- for some, "the Professional" is just something rather special, and also represents performances at the top of the mettle of the main actors- perhaps due to a good script and director? Particularly a director that makes it possible to get inside the head of the main protagonists? Without the latter, you wind up with superficial treatments that don't really nourish- like the Star Wars Prequel movies.

The material is sort of off the wall, Chris, and probably not everyone's cup of tea. I'm surprised to this day that they got away with " the older man and a 12 year old girl " thing, even though there was nothing pornographic in the film itself. Also, the Jean Reno character was just so damn interesting. Perhaps these are some of the reasons that make the film so special to so many people.
