Awww. Hobson's Choice. Gotta look for that at the rental shop. Long time no see. Never did see the first movie you mentioned, Bob.

Speaking of classics. I recently replaced my old dvd of CASABLANCA with a sparkling new Blu-ray copy, so I had an excuse to watch this great classic for the zillionith time. The hi-def picture was gorgeous, in fact it reminded me of how this film looked the first time I ever saw it in a theater.

I'll look for the Blu-ray version, George. The black and white DVD's I've watched don't capture the silver look that film has. It would be interesting to see if it is any better on Blue-ray.
Recently I speant many, many days at Laser Pacific helping to smooth out a black and white movie we filmed a couple of years ago. Unfortunatly we shot it on colored film and then pulled out the color in post. We just couldn't get that silver look of real black and white film. It would either look to cold (blue) or to warm (sepia). There is no post production house in the world with more computing power than Laser Pacific but, I clearly saw the limitations of "fixing it in post", which has become the mantra on film sets these days.

I'd have to say, Bob, that the hi-def version was much closer to the silver screen look than the dvd copy I also own. But, there are few b&w movies on dvd that capture that old "silver" look I miss so very much.

          Hey all,

I have a Netbook and decided to get a simple Samsung black and white Laser printer to print stuff off of it. Problem is, I can't get the damn driver to load into the Netbook. I have a portable dvd drive that I can hook up to the Netbook but it get's about 2/3rd's of the way through...

HD DVD and The Blue Laser
          by George Bellefontaine
Apparently Sony, Philips, Samsung, LG, Thomson, Hitachi, Pioneer, Matsushita and Sharp have agreed to a new DVD standard adopting the blue laser. The so-called Blu-laser disc works with a blue laser that operates at a higher frequency than current technology, can store up to 13 hours of film, compared...

It's a book entitled IN HARM'S WAY. Yes, I know there was a film called IN HARM'S WAY starring the Duke, but this book is about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. Remember Quint talking about this in Jaws? Well the book is something else and I am far from finished reading it. But it's one of those...

How much should a student first time film cost?
          by oldbob
In answer to my own question, I would say between $10,000 and $40,000 dollars. It used to be more but digital has drastically lowered the cost while at the same time making it much easier to produce a professional look.

However, this isn’t a story about reasonable. This is the true...

Black Snake Moan is not a sexploitation film..
          by George Bellefontaine
It seems to have been marketed that way, and yes, throughout most of the film a black man has a white girl on a chain and there are some strong sexual scenes. But those , who can overlook the marketing hype and watch the film for what it is ( a black man in mid-life crisis finds consolation by providing...
