Last House On The Left remake

I never saw the original Wes Craven version but the remake has plenty of violence and bloodshed. Bunch of baddies do nasty things ( including an awfully graphic rape scene ) to the daughter of a doctor and his wife who exact "bloody" revenge. The final scene will cause you to look at your microwave oven differently the next time you use it.

I'm not saying yes or no on this one because many may like it. But for me, it's one of those movies that after I see it I just want to take a bath.

I saw the original about a bazillion years ago and barely remember it. I'm on the fence about the remake. Wes Craven's horror movies were usually more about suspense with the occasional "shocker" scene. I'm also reluctant to encourage the trend of "do-overs" in Hollyweird. The movie biz seems to be bereft of creativity. Is it possible all the good movies have already been made?
After re-reading your review , George , I think I'll skip the film and go straight to the shower. :B

Craven was one of the producers of this remake so I would guess it is close to the original. But you maybe correct in going straight to the shower, Lee.

The only reason that I watched this was because the movie was shot in the Helderberg Nature Reserve, at the foot of the mountains just outside the town which I grew up in (Somerset-West which is 30 minutes east of Cape Town). A friend and I used to go running in those pine woods. I read that the house was built from scratch as part of the set so that it matched the American style (which is quite different to the brick & plastered houses over here).

The type of graphic violence depicted in this movie is not the sort of stuff that I go for. Gave me a stomach cramp. Nevertheless I was curious to give this an ogle. I guess I prefer the classic type horror movie with frights & scares ... the heart attack inducing ones that have one jolting involuntarily.

You're right George, I'll be extra careful not to be head-hunted by the microwave.

          Yes, be very careful...

You know, I would never have guessed this movie was filmed in South Africa. You have some beautiful country there.

Thanks, George. It's spring over here now. Time for me to get out of this computer chair and put some of that country into these veins. :T

Longest Yard - the remake and Cursed
              by George Bellefontaine
LONGEST YARD was okay, but I still liked the original better.

I also watched CURSED over the weekend. Yuck. Terrible story, terrible , actually funny looking werewolf. I don't think Wes Craven knew if this one should be a comedy or a serious attempt at horror. Neither worked IMHO....

Flight of the Phoenix- The Remake
              by Shane Martin
FYI: This is the remake to a 1965 Jimmy Stewart movie which is also available now for $10.

Dennis Quaid is a pilot sent to Mongolia to do an evacuation. The plane crashes and the story pretty much revolves around their rescue or attempts to rescue themselves. The success of this is going...

The Hills Have Eyes the remake
              by George Bellefontaine
The remake has pretty much the same storyline as the original ( family stuck in the desert and attacked by strange beings) but with a little embellishment. What I didn't like about the remake was the excessive gore. Anyway, I just rented it to see how it compared to the original ( which I have in my...

              The Wolfman/the remake
              by George Bellefontaine
The old Universal Pictures original version of The Wolfman (1941) scared the living hell outta me the first time I saw it. And it still scares me today. The remake, starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, is a pale version of the original. In fact, they've changed the story dramatically, and...
