Set in South Carolina in 1964, The Secret Life Of Bees is a poignant little film about a 14 year old girl ( Dakota Fanning ) who carries the weight of a terrible guilt no youngster should ever have to endure, while seeking truth and love against a backdrop of racism and family abuse. A woman beekeeper famous for her honey ( Queen Latifah ) holds the key and the answers Fanning so desperately needs.
Also stars Paul Bettany as the abusive father, and Jennifer Hudson as Fanning's nanny and friend.
Not a film everyone here might like, but I was moved by the story and the acting of everyone involved, especially Dakota Fanning who just gets better with age. I can't imagine how good she will be when she becomes an adult.
:T For anyone who likes a good drama.
