Which Newman film did you watch this weekend?

In honour of the great Paul Newman's passing, I decided to pull out an old favourite and kick back for a couple of hours. While I've seen Slap Shot over a dozen times, this was the first time it wasn't P&S and it was the first time on a screen bigger than a 4:3 32 inch SD TV. The 25th Anniversary release looked a fair bit better than I expected (particularly as I've been watching a lot of BD/HD DVD lately). Not hi-def, of course, but a good enough transfer to demonstrate that the combination of my A2 HD DVD player and Sony projector can make SD DVD look pretty good (good thing for my wallet, too, as it will lessen the impulse to upgrade all my DVDs as their BD counterparts emerge).

incidently, while I'm normally NOT a fan of "dubbed" films--especially when I understand the original language--Slap Shot is one of the very few I've encountered that is as entertaining in its dubbed Quebecois French as it is in the original English

I think I'll throw in a couple more this week--I have The Sting on HD DVD (I've yet to screen it) and I'd already planned to get Cool Hand Luke on BD

I haven't had a chance to watch any yet, but this is my Newman collection:

    Slap Shot
    The Sting
    Cool Hand Like
The Hustler - my favorite Newman film
    Color of Money
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
    The Verdict
    Fat Man and Little Boy
    Hudsucker Proxy
    Road to Perdition
    Santino

I own most of the titles Santino listed and am looking forward to Hud coming on Blu-ray. As toi answering the qurestion: which Paul Newman film did you watch this weekend ? my answer is HOMBRE, one of the most underrated westerns ever. I am also hoping there will be some of Newman's earlier films released on Blu-ray, such as The Long Hot Summer, Sweet Bird Of Youth, From The Terrace, Paris Blues, and Harper, just to mention a few. Some of these I have on tape or dvd but really would like to have them on Blu-ray.

Tonight I will watch The Hustler and after that, Slapshot. I just watched Butch and Sundance on Blu a few weeks ago and will revisit it in a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, I didn't have an opportunity to watch any movies this weekend, but my first choice would have been Hombre too. This is one of my all time favorite movies and in my top 5 westerns of all time. The dialogue/script is excellent with some great one liners delivered by a top notch cast. Mr Newman plays the ultimate hardass in this movie and it is one of his many classics.

        Great choice George! :T

I forgot about "Fat Man and Little Boy". Going to have to watch that one again.

This is a movie about fathers and sons. It's about the relationships between them and the trials they produce. It's about both generations looking at, and in some cases learning more about their children and parents than they

            Hi all,

This thread isn't just about Westerns on DVDs! It's about your favorite Westerns - period. At the cinema. On TV. On tape. On laserdisc. Yes, on DVD. On. . . well, whatever. I'd started a thread like this back on the "old" HTG but it disappeared in the migration,...

Finally, a release date for Ridley Scott's legend. Look for it on May 21. Should be loaded with extras after all this time.

Other newbies, Mothman Prophecies on June 4; Vanilla Sky on May 21; From Hell (2 disc set) on May 27th, and one I've been waiting for, Paul Newman in The Hustler
