    Closing the ring

Closing the Ring tells the story of some American soldiers during the Second World War, and the girl they were in love with. The film kicks off at a funeral in 1991 where crabby widow Ethel Ann (Maclaine) would rather sit outside the chapel puffing a cigarette than hear her dead husband eulogised. Ethel Ann clearly wasn't too enamoured with her hubby for reasons which are slowly unfurled through flashbacks to the main characters' salad days when America stood on the verge of joining World War II.

The film jumps between three different stories. The first and second follow the same characters in 1941 and in 1991; both in the US, before, and long after the boys went to war. Ethel-Ann (Shirley MacLaine in her old age, and Mischa Barton in the past) is the girl everyone is in love with. She hangs with the boys and is in love with Teddy (Stephen Arnell). The third storyline takes place in Belfast in 1991, where a young man is fascinated by the war remains he is uncovering on a hill. He finds a ring, and wants to connect it to its’ owner, thus bringing him together with the American characters.

We watched this as a family and even though I'd consider this love/war epic to be quite crowded, I found it to be presented with clarity. Cinematography was superb and so was picture quality (Std DVD).

Shirley MacLaine and Christopher Plummer were excellent!

Enjoyed it. I love movies like this.
    I'd give it :4:

Stars Shirley MacLaine and Christopher Plummer. It's set in 1943 and 1993 and the story goes back and forth, keeping you glued to you chair trying to figure out why MacLaine, who during the war years was madly in love with a young bomber pilot, yet is indifferent at the funeral of her husband in 1993....

      Faraday Ring

The Faraday ring, named after the English scientist Michael Faraday, is an electromagnetic component used in loudspeakers and other audio systems. It serves to minimize electromagnetic interference and distortion caused by eddy currents induced in the voice coil and pole piece of a loudspeaker driver. Faraday rings are typically made of conductive materials, such as copper or aluminum, and are placed around the pole piece of a loudspeaker driver.

      RTS Real War

Any thoughts on the RTS game "Real War"? I just downloaded the demo of it and may purchase the full game. Real war has the elements that I like, strategic gaming with modern day weapons. As much as I liked "Age Of Empires", I longed for a RTS game where it was not...
